Years of experience

Published

I am an international nurse graduated in 2013. I completed my master's degree in nursing in 2018. And I am applying (RN licensure) for Texas Board of Nursing. The BON says that we need to have clinical experience within four years or we must have additional education within the last four years in order to be eligible for the NCLEX exam. But I do not have any clinical work experience till now. My master's degree syllabus also does not include any clinical hours as it was research oriented.

If so, am I eligible to take NCLEX in Texas BON? I am hoping that my master's degree will work (even though has no practical hours). But not sure.

This is really making me tensed.

Any idea would be highly appreciated.

It is possible you are not eligible to take the NCLEX. Your education and experience unfortunately may not meet the minimum standards for licensure with the Texas BON. You don't say where your education originated. You may wish to find a mentor from your home country that has successfully made the transition and request their advice on how to proceed. It is likely the BON will have to evaluate your transcripts and experience to determine if you are eligible. That will take some time.

You probably will need some clinical experience before you are eligible. You may be able to take a clinical refresher course through a local college or university that will meet the required number of hours. Have you had your transcripts evaluated by a credentialing service? They will be able to evaluate your credits and you will then be able to determine if they meet the Texas BON requirements. Not impossible, but can be expensive and time-consuming.

Thank you so much for the replies...after this I think I should change my processing to another BON that does not require any work experience...

I will be very surprised, to be honest, if that exists given that your education was done overseas. I do wish you the very best of luck. Let us know how it goes.

@Mayalu where you able to take NCLEX.. If so what state? Coz I am too confuse... my last employment was 2013 and planning to take now. I read something from NursingLicensure.org for Texas regarding International Nurse without recent experience I am attaching it here. Refresher course is need but first you need to take NCLEX.
