Hi all! I am considering a career in Nursing, but have a 12 year old class 1 misdemeanor charge (non-violent).
This is my one and only charge, not even a speeding ticket. Can one contact their states BON about such matters
prior to beginning a nursing program?
Thank you for any advice :)

You can contact them, however they may not give you a straight answer. I tried calling my state BON many times and just got transfered to a voice mail and no one would ever call me back. I finally got a lady on the line, just for her to tell me my convictions 'shouldn't' keep me from getting my license. Not really what I wanted to hear. Hope you have better luck.

You can but most would say "it's a case by case basis".
What state are you in?
Thank you for the replies. FLmomof5, I currently live in Massachusetts. If I pursue a nursing degree I would do so in MA, but I am planning on moving out to California (eventually). I have contacted both state's BON and haven't heard anything from either. I may call/email the school I plan to attend, my guess is they have dealt with these situations before. If I hear anything relevant I'll certainly pass it on. Thanks again for your comments.
