Yale RN-MSN Fall 2013

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has any information regarding RN's who apply to the MSN portion at Yale, as opposed to the GEPN program. Does anyone have any stats as far as how many apply and get accepted, specifically for FNP? Type of scores, GRE's, and experience? A lot of the information on here seems to be geared towards the GEPN's, which is great, but I wonder if its applicable to RN's applying to the program.

Any information anyone may have is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

sofia2006 - I applied to the Family NP. I am an RN already. Have you been interviewed at all yet? I received an email saying they were still interviewing and should have decisions made by 4/15.

Any info or updates on MSN applicants, anyone? Time sure seems to be crawling by :)

Ugh, I can't take how sloooow this process is. It's beyond crawling, it's in arrested development ;)

I agree! 6 more days! Jeeez! I wonder if there's any other lurkers out there that are following this thread. Surely there's more RN's that applied to the MSN program?

I finally broke down and requested information about it (though I was really hoping I wouldn't reach that point of "pathetic") :). I was told 67 RNs applied to the programs this year and a quarter of them were to the FNP track. So about 17 for our track? However, I have gathered that we seem to be getting the positions that are remaining after 2012's GEPNs were accepted. So in terms of spots, I dunno? 1? 2? 3? Ahhh! 5 loong days.

Did you apply/get accepted to any other programs?

Thanks for that info, Jak! Doesn't really seem like encouraging odds, however there are a couple of factors that may come into play in this situation. For example, were all applicants to the FNP option offered an interview or were some denied? Also, Yale states on its website that it utilizes rolling admissions for RN's applying to the program, so the timing of applications submitted could also be a factor (unless, of course, Yale decided not to fully employ rolling admissions for RN's this cycle). Just a couple more things to rack our brains about these next 5 days :)

I did apply and interview at a couple other programs, however they are also following the same late-April/early-May admissions notification schedule. Such an agonizing wait! Why can't my vacation days seem to last this long? :)

How about yourself? Any other options you are considering?

Hi Saintly - that is exactly along the same strand I was thinking. Hopefully not everyone received an invitation to interview :). I was accepted to the University of Michigan (I received it in March, I couldn't believe how early it was) but Yale is my top choice. I kind of feel like I'm in that mode where I'm not really focused on anything that is going on around me and am simply grateful for each day that passes until I hear the decision! What is your top choice? How long have you been nursing/what type of nursing do you do?

I must admit, it's nice to just talk to someone who is in the same agony as myself, lol.

I'm in for FNP. :)

You are getting considered for the (few) spots left over after all the 2012 GEPN admissions have been given slots in the specialty of their choice.

And they don't interview everyone who applies. By being invited for an interview, you have made it over the first hurdle (survived the initial round of eliminations).

I'm in for FNP. :)

I'm in as well!

Now that we're both officially accepted [celebratory dance], where are you coming from? Are you accepting it?

I am in for the Psych track, anyone have any idea how many of us there are?

No clue, all I've heard, and as elkpark said, is that it's the leftover spots from the 2012 GEPN students. Are you planning on going or do you have other options?
