Yale GEPN 2020

Published

Hi All,

I have been on the lookout for the 2020 thread but figured that I'll have to create one. I am sorry if there is one that I am not aware of.

I am a 2020 hopeful that is looking to make a career switch. I was at one of the information sessions where I gained further insights on the application process and the program. I took the GRE yesterday and was around the 50th percentile for both Q&V.

One of the changes to this years' requirements is that you don't need the GRE if you already have a masters degree or would complete one before the start of the 2020 session. I haven't taken the major prerequisites, but I will take and complete them in the summer of 2020.

I will start talking to my recommenders from next week, I have a tentative list that I composed with a view of having them tell different stories about my candidacy.

May I crave the indulgence of both current and past GEPNs and the benevolence of prospective class of 2020 to make this thread the best one yet. Your views and insights are welcome and appreciated!

WOW! that’s super condescending. How do you speak to someone like that under the guise of another name? I’m glad you aren’t joining our cohort we surely don’t need people of your caliber. Shame on you for having the nerve to even speak to someone like that.

One thing that I love so very much about our cohort is how kind and supportive everyone is!

If quarantine continues until the Fall when the school year starts, does anyone know how that will impact our classes? Will it mean we may be graduating later?

How are current students being impacted?

hi guys. I've been lurking around here. Quick q! Did anyone here just apply to the MSN? Not have the GEPN year? I can't seem to find much information about just the MSN. Anyone know how competitive it is?

Hello, I am an RN and was accepted into the nurse midwifery MSN program. I honestly don’t know how competitive it is, how many students apply, or how many students they plan to accept into the direct specialty MSN programs each year. I can tell you that it seems like I am the only nurse midwifery direct specialty student starting this Summer. There are only a handful of others in the other specialties. I would say that you have nothing to lose by applying! If you can attend an info session, I definitely recommend doing so.

@Hopefulyalie I was going to mention Amy, she was the only one I knew of from on here. I’m glad she responded to you. Also, on IG there’s a girl I knew of from having some of the same friends and she’s a Yale grad that went in as an RN..... her tag is ‘diabadassaprn’.

Hi Everyone! I just got emailed by Jana that a spot opened and have been admitted from the waitlist. I'm so excited!

I know someone asked about their plan for the fall given the current pandemic. I asked Jana a similar question, and here was her her response:

"We are planning to start the fall as expected on August 31 with orientation being held online (given concerns with large crowds in closed spaces). The orientation will be released as a set of weekly videos/live check-ins over the course of the month of August. We will also open registration early (August 3) for all GEPN students so that we can connect in time should anyone encounter issues. Furthermore, our billing will be delayed by one month which we hope will be helpful to all.

Aside from that, we do plan to have hybrid mode of instruction. Large lectures will likely be held fully online as those tend to be less dynamic whereas skills labs/SIM will still be on-site. Any clinical experiences may be pushed to later in the Fall or swapped with Spring (if needed though we hope not)."

Hi, is the start date in August like the GEPN program? Or are MSN students able to start in the Spring, Summer, or fall? and did you find out the same time as the GEPN students?

I found out the same time as the GEPNs. MSN specialty entry students must take a Summer class starting in June. It was supposed to be online in June and on campus starting in July covering advanced physical assessment material (this Summer 100% online). Then we start our specialty programs with the other MSNs (those who just completed their GEPN year) in August. There is only one start date option in all the programs as of right now.

thank you for all your help! I can't seem to find any info specifically about the MSN. Do you know how many they MSN they take? I'm wondering which speciality is most competitive. I'm interested in Gerontology .

Hello!

I applied for the upcoming cohort. I have a few questions on paying for the program, should I get in. I am very financially needy so I assume I will get need based scholarships. Did anyone successfully apply to the HRSA nurse corps program to pay for the program? Also, did anyone find that Yale helped those admitted find a way to afford the program? I was admitted to an ABSN program a few years back but ended up giving away my seat due to finances, I hope that will not be the case again!

Thanks!
