Like midwifery students of past years, I as well have fallen in love with Yale's GEPN Midwifery program. This question is about the personal statement.
Ive been told that this is the most important part of the application, and that it should tell your story. This was said by Dr. Korevec during the informational, so I'm fairly confident in knowing that's what they want. It should explain why Yale and why nursing. However, whenever someone proofreads my personal statement, they know I'm applying to Yale and say it reads too much like a story and not like a college application essay. It's happened like 3 times and now I'm not sure what to do. Any advice?
thanks!
Hi, RTJones!
I can't speak to having a family, but I do have a spouse, and while it's difficult to find time where we both are free, rest assured that it isn't impossible. My typical hours are as follows:
M: 8-12, 2-4
T: 7-7
W: off
R: 8-12, 1-4
F: 8-12
And I have saturday and sunday off.
Keep in mind, actual schedules will vary. Some people have different clinicals, some people have clinicals on the weekend, it all depends. However, you should have at least 2 days off; 3 if you have one 12 hr clinical per week. I do know someone with a 2.5 year old and she seems to be doing just fine; she has an incredibly supportive spouse. There is a day care facility on west campus (somewhere), if that helps at all!
RTJones,
Thanks for sharing that nerve-racking (but exciting) information! I didn't think we would have our interview decisions released this soon.
That being said, I'm assuming they'll let us know before Friday since the school is hosting the Scholars Day program and "special" information session for GEPN applicants we were emailed about on that day.
Good luck to all of you. I am a current GEPN and remember that waiting was the hardest part of the entire process no matter where we applied. We didn't receive our interview invitations until Dec when we applied last year so they have moved the timetable ahead considerably this year.
Sandy is wonderful as is the entire financial aid team.
If you have any questions about the program let us know. All the older cohorts have been very good about helping the incoming candidates in previous years and and it looks like rls2018 and I would both like to continue the tradition.
Good luck again with the coming week.
Edit: It also looks like you have two Yale GEPN 2019 threads going on right now, you can ask the moderators to merge the two threads if you want to consolidate it into one thread.
