Yale GEPN Applicants 2012

Published

There didn't seem to be a main thread for applicants to Yale's GEPN program this year, so I thought I'd get one started. I'm applying for the midwifery specialty and am currently working on my application essays, having done everything else.

Is anyone else really struggling with the main essay? I've finished my apps to two other programs and was happy with how those essays came out, but Yale's essay guidelines as so restrictive that I feel like my essay is turning out all disjointed. The fact that we have to answer every aspect of every question in *exactly the order they list* (this is apparently something that you need to take very seriously) means that I'm having to tie myself in knots. I want it to be not only informative about me as an applicant but also a good piece of writing - and I feel like the essay format is making this kind of difficult.

Anyone else out there applying?

no idea about the odds... but I am really struggling with this right now too. last night I dreamt that I had to do the interview again. why can't it just be march already???

approx 20 days to go!

@simplekategirl, I talked to the director of admissions on my interview day and she first told me that "Yale is very self-selecting" but then she admitted "some people will be disappointed." Which I found pretty frustrating. I worked out at one point that our chances were 43% after getting an interview invitation. So in my head, I have factored what I think was a fairly successful interview and decided I have a coin flip chance. That's what I like to tell myself. Nothing really helps though. I have a day counter on my phone that I look at obsessively, and I make lists, lots and lots of list. Good luck.

clovette - you and I think alike. I'm a lister. big time.I like your take on our odds. alas - it has been a great journey up until this. anyone that doesn't again should simply be the next class coming in!

this. is. taking. so. so. long.

16 more days - if they send out the email on March 1st. It feels like forever. Did anyone go to the GEPN midwifery potluck that was held on the 26th? How was is? Did they offer any additional insights into the program? I had to get home and couldn't stay over for it but would have loved to have met some of the students already in the program. Also, is anyone out there a potential commuter? I live a little over an hour from Yale (north) and will be commuting (if I get in). Just curious if anyone else is potentially in the boat? Rooting for everyone on this board that they get in!

Should I be fortunate enough to be admitted, I will most likely be commuting from Yonkers, NY - just outside the Bronx. On my interview day it took me about an hour and 15 minutes to get there, since it's a reverse commute. Not ideal, but people do it!

I'd be commuting from Guilford - about 20 min. I already commute by train daily from Guilford to new haven - so nothing would change for me! aside for my career!!!!! fingers crossed!

I'm in the same boat. I would be commuting from about an hour north of New Haven, should I be so fortunate. This month really does seem to be going by so slowly. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one thinking about it all the time! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us.

12 days until March 1st! We are closing in on it everyone. Breath. Pray.

I'm really starting to feel it again. had been doing well with keeping my brain occupied - now its all creeping back in.I can't wait to know!!!good luck all.

hi fellow GEPN hopefuls - i joined the thread right around the time that we received interview invites, but my account - along with my comments - were casualties of whatever technical difficulties that brought the site down in mid/late december. as notifications are getting ever closer (i've been counting down the days one by one), i just wanted to wish everyone the very best of luck! i'm a nervous wreck and there isn't another group of people who could understand any better than all of you :)
