Actually the best place to work in Brevard County is Parrish Medical Center, located in Titusville.

Parrish as been voted as one of the top 100 "Best Places To Work" by Modern Health Care. They have great employee satisfaction, patient satisfaction and High Quality. Wuestoff's quality and employee satisfaction do not come close to Parrish. The ICU Director is a dynamic leader who is open to new ideas and supports employees.

If you go to www.Parrishmed.com, their website, you will see what I am talking about.

Good Luck

Thanks for the input. I'm already going to be living in an apartment in Cocoa though, so I think that would be too far of a drive. Are Cape Canaveral and Rockledge decent at least?

The Cape is ok, but atleast look at the web site for both. The cape is part of Health First system. Parrish is a Community not-for -profit.

You should apply to both and interview at both then decide.

Are you set in an appartment? There is some condos on the river that you can get really good deals now. One of the condos is Summer set and the other is sand point marina.

Try www.Brevardmls.com then go to public site and check out titusville. you may like it better.

Hi there,

I don't know if you've moved here yet or not- but take it from someone who has worked for both hospitals- go to the Cape.

oh boy...well, i got the job at both facilities but I've already chosen Wuesthoff because they offered me a better package- higher pay and seemingly better benefits. I hope the ICU turns out to be an okay place to work!!!

also the Cape seemed so small that I felt the job might be kinda boring with lower acuity, etc.

well I'd appreciate any additional input- thanks guys!

Good Luck!!! I still feel Parrish is worth the drive. Parrish is ranked in the 81st percentile world wide in employee satisfaction by Gallup. If things are not what you expect at Wuesthoff, feel free to come see me at Parrish Medical Center.

thanks

Any thought as to what might happen to Parrish when the huge layoffs occur at the space center later this year?

I've heard good things about Parrish but the space center layoffs made me think twice about working at Parrish since Titusville might end up a ghost town.

I'm wondering what you think of Wuesthoff as an ICU nurse? Are you happy there now? I graduated from University of KY in Dec and have still not gotten a job. My fiance lives in Viera, and I'm looking to move to the area, but it seems like everyone is only hiring "in-house." Is that an OK hospital to work--ICU or ER?

What type of experience do you have?

Try www.Parrishmed.com and apply for an ICU position and I will look at your app.

I have talked to HR there, and they have already told me "no" because I am not "In House." I worked as a tech at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical center for 2.5 years, one year on the floor on the stroke unit, and the last one and one-half in the Surgical ICU and Trauma ICU. UK is a level 1 trauma center and magnet hospital, so I was able to see and learn a lot of things. I also did an internship in the Coronary care unit there for 222 hours right before graduation. By the end of the 222 hours, I was taking 2 patients by myself, and my preceptor was comfortable with me doing that. I'm comfortable with SWANS, IABP's, deep lines, vents, etc. Just seems like no one will give me a chance! Should I reapply to Parrish?

I forgot to say that I have already passed the NCLEX, also, and have my provisional KY licensure.
