Try a new OR?

How old are you now? I work with with OR nurses who are 65.

I left med/surg for the OR. I love it so far and hope never to go back.

From what I've seen in the OR, the drape goes up near the patient's head and blocks anesthesia's view of the surgery. I don't think you'd be able to see much. Why not become a scrub tech or OR nurse (in scrub role). If seeing the insides of bodies is your passion that would give you a front row seat.

Try to get a job as an anesthesia tech in the OR. I think you have to at least be a CNA. Then you can watch the CRNAs and see if you'd like to pursue that career.

I just worked two 12 hr day shifts and today is my day off. I'm tired and achy and just want to lay on the couch all day. I've been doing 12 hrs for over 2 yrs. Doesn't get any better.

I left hospital nursing and took a couple years off then did clinical research for 10 yrs. It was a nice change of pace. Pay was good in hospital based research and poor in physician practice research. I recently got layed off from my research job. I had a really hard time finding a hospital job because I had been out of it so long. Luckily one hospital took a chance on me. I would advise a nurse to keep her foot in the door.

Many years ago, when I couldn't find a nursing job near home after graduating, I moved to Tallahassee and worked at TMH for one year on nights. I don't remember the pay at this point (I'm sure it was much less than now), but I remember being happy just to get a job. Once my year was up, I moved where I wanted to live and got a job. Take the job, no matter the pay, and then down the road you can choose where you want to go. Good luck!

I think a 60 mile commute each way would get old real fast. Especially having to do the drive in the a.m. after working a 12 hr. night. I like what gerlich8 said.

fcorcoran: Any thought as to what might happen to Parrish when the huge layoffs occur at the space center later this year? I've heard good things about Parrish but the space center layoffs made me think twice about working at Parrish since Titusville might end up a ghost town.
