what am i doing wrong?

Published

I have had 4 interviews. i was not accepted to 2 schools, alternate for 1 and awaiting respose from 1.

I really want to become a CRNA, not because of money, but because i know it will be something i enjoy and it fits my personality and so many other reasons.

Every school say i am qualified, otherwise they would not have invited me for an interview! What am i doing or saying wrong at these interviews or is it that i just look wrong?

I am not going to give up, i am still applying to other schools. I would just like some advice on what i can do to increase my chances on getting into a CRNA program.

Sounds like I might get a letter Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for posting this, it gives me time to prepare myself for being disappointed. My only hope is that my GREs are very high, but Midwestern doesn't even require them and I doubt they'd consider that strongly in my favor.

I applied at Gonzaga, Samuel Merritt and U of New England. Interviewed at UNE already and felt like I sounded dumb. I'm already making alternative plans for next year 'cause I just don't feel good about getting in anywhere.

I bet Midwestern won't mind telling you how you could strengthen your app for next year. I'm certainly going to call them. Are you going to apply other places or hold out for this school? You're in a different situation from me since you live there.

Well, more bad news for me! I did not get accepted to a 4th school:o

I am now praying i get accepted as an alternate. I am also still applying to other schools. The applications were already out so i just completed them (made sure all of the other paper work was in).

I am not giving up hope. However, I am proceeding to plans B, C, D, E....:)

Maybe it was not the Lords plan for me to start a CRNA program 2005!

Oh yes, I did mail letters to 2 of the schools that didn't accept me. I asked the director of the program how i can enhance my application and or interview skills.

If you don't mind me asking, how many years of experience have you had and what is your GPA? I am a hopeful for nurse anesthesia school in the future (I'm only in college now) and my boyfriend tries to tell me that I study too much now and I get too worried about not getting into school in the future, but I try to tell him how competitive it is to get in!

I have a 3.5(3.47) GPA and 3 years critical care experience. I don't think it is my interview skills either because by the 4th interview i was a professional. I went over every possible scenario in my head. i anticipated their questions and knew many facts about the school.

Maybe they think I am too young:rolleyes:

2 of my interviews were just getting to know you styles (no clinical questions). 2 a combination. I was able to answer all of their questions appropiately.

I have a coworker with the same stats and she got in to the 1 school she applied to. We are the same age. oops she has 1.5 yrs experience.I did not apply to the same school. I guess it is different strokes for different folks.

This is the first hurdle i will have had to jump over. I have been an RN since I was 21. I feel very blessed in my career. I sailed through my AAS and BSN program with very little difficulty.

I really am not sure of the reason for my misfortune. However if i do not get into a program this year i am going to take my CCRN, ACLS intructor course and 2 graduate courses. If those measures don't work then I will really feel as though the schools are not being fair.

By the way, i am currently studying for my GRE which will open more doors for me.

Just keep your head up (which it sounds like you are already doing). If you don't get in this year, then try for next year. Maybe if they see you taking extra classes and all that, they will like that for the next time you apply. I wish you the best of luck!!!

I have a 3.5 GPA, 1.5 yrs ICU, CCRN cert, GREs are something like 760/650/5.5 (I don't remember the precise math and verbal scores but those are pretty close). No idea if I will get in anywhere.

I strongly believe a person can do anything they aspire to do . You just have to have the drive.

Perseverance is all you need.

Your stats seem good to me, I am sure you will get accepted somewhere if you have the drive.

Well, that's that. No interview at Midwestern.

Three more schools to keep hope for.

I'm sorry to all those in love with Midwestern, but they must have their heads up their a**es! To not give Apais an interview with her stats and clear demonstration of dedication to her career goal with obtaining certs, etc. It truely sounds like you are both better off. You must need to know someone for an in at that school. Please don't give this denial a second though...not worth it. Best wishes in the continued pursuit.

P.S. The type of clinical experience matters a lot...are you guys employed by major medical centers? Just a thought.

I do not know your personal situation, if you can, expand your opportunities. Put in more applications out there. Do not be discouraged. "Fortune favors the bold". Be prepared to go to more interviews, vary your approach or something. Get a co-worker/friend/family to interview you, if there are problems with your technique, make corrections. I am sure some programs are still accepting applications. Remember, when you graduate you will be eligible for that CRNA licensing exam just like a student from any other program.

Good luck.

I work in a MICU/CICU in the only university affiliated teaching hospital in the state - basically we're IT for most of the state and a large portion of the neighboring one. Level I trauma center for both adults and peds (not that I do trauma). The hospital must have 400ish beds and my ICU has 21 and the SICU/PICU has 25. I thought that would be good enough.

Certainly is! Definately call Midwestern to see what qualifies for an interview because it's crazy you did not get one. Good luck with the other apps!
