If your school has an access to JSTOR (usually through their library link), then use that as a resource (peer-reviewed articles for all disciplines). To use this resource for free, you should know your school library login and password. Most colleges and uni's that I know of do have such access for their students: www.jstor.org

And, if you need specific labor statistics with related trends within an occupation, you may have to research the U.S. Department of Labor:

Good luck!

Well the answer to your first question is easy.

Nursing is so popular in these current times because our economy is in the crapper and lots of people are still losing their jobs. With mounting bills piling up and depression setting in many people are willing to do anything to get back on track.

This is where greedy colleges and know nothing writers and news anchors come in and proclaim of a fantastical recession, depression, apocalypse, proof job that is nursing. Often this is accompanied by flashing numbers and bold printed letters indicating the large amounts of money you will be raking in the first year. Since people tend to believe the media and are suckers for easy money they enroll in school.

Not too longer after this happens they then create an account on Allnurses and proceed to complain about how they never thought nursing school was going to be this hard or the more popular "Where are all the jobs" thread.

For your why it's good nursing became a popular profession question I say because when all the boomers retire someone will need to be there to care for them in their old age.

p.s Yes I'm being sarcastic and yes, my teachers hated a lot of my essays.

If you spend enough time on Google you can find the right articles.

Here's a very interesting one about the nursing situation in Florida.

Try CINAHL too, if you have access to it.

"CINAHL®, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, is the most comprehensive resource for nursing and allied health literature."
