Write my own recommendation?

Should I write my own letter of recommendation?

I'm applying to nursing schools and I asked one of my employers to write me a LOR.

She told me that she would be happy to but asked me to write it for her and then send it to her. Then, she will read it, insert her own input, and "kind of rewrite it".

I don't even know what to do...should I do it or just get a LOR from someone else?

She is an optometrist. I don't even know if it's a good idea to get LOR from an optometrist whom I worked for but she knows how interested I am when it comes to health care and helping people. What do you guys think?

She probably wants to help but isn't sure what to say or doesn't have time to do it properly. Go ahead and write something up and send it to her.

What she asked you to do is a common practice. I had to do this numerous times in the past. It is one way to showcase yourself with information that the person may not have at the tip of their pen, and another way to insure it gets done, or done in a timely manner. Get someone to help you with the project if necessary. Keep a rough draft for future use. If you do not care for the finished product after she goes over it, then ask someone else. Or ask another person now just so you have a backup anyway.

I don't even know where to start with the LOR. Any know where to find some LOR samples?

Do an internet search for "letter of reference". Tons of links will come up. Meanwhile, think about and write down what you think three or four of your best characteristics are. Good place to start.
