Has anyone taken the wound care certification exam recently? I just finished the wound care program through Emory University & I'm taking the exam next week. I've heard that the exam is pretty hard 😬. Any feedback is appreciated!

I took the wound exam about three years ago, and yes I found it very hard. I passed by the skin of my teeth. Normally I pass those certification exams with plenty of room to spare. I did very well on the ostomy and continence exams.
I am not quite sure why I didn't do that well, although I did pass. I had a big break in time between when I completed my coursework and when I took the exam, due to a number of problems with my preceptor ship. I think just the delay time wise made it hard for me to remember the details.
I know you completed Emory's program, but let me give a big shout out for the Web-WOC two-hour review course. It is available to anyone, costs $75, and 90% of the material that will be covered on the exam is covered in the two hour refresher. I took the refreshers for ostomy and continence and I think that really helped me is those exams.
Thanks for your response! I took the exam this past week and I passed!
Woo hoo! Congratuations homehelathWCN. I am curious -- do you do just home health wound nursing, and how were you so lucky to find such a job? I would love to do that.
Thank you! Nothing has changed with my job yet. I'm a home health case manager so I see a variety of patients. The hospital I work for is going through some management changes so I plan to have a meeting to discuss my position change soon. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to only focus on wound care. We'll see though!

My daughter is a WOCN and is the dedicated wound person for a large home health department of a local hospital system. She educates staff on wound care, vacs and such, oversees all product utilization, sees a FEW patients weekly with especially challenging wounds. The rest of the time, the field staff texts/ emails her pictures of patient concerns. Oh, she also works with the new EMR roll out to make sure her home care staff has an appropriate, useful and compliant documentation platform.

Hi, I know it has been months since you took the certification. I'm planning on starting Emory distance learning program. Do you think the program prepared you for the certification? How long it take you to finish the program? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi! I definitely think that Emory prepared me to take the certification exam. I also purchased the flash cards from the WOCN society website & they helped a lot too. I only completed the wound care & professional practice modules. They allow you 3 months for each module. It's very self paced. I had to do 40 hours of clinicals with a CWCN. I could have completed the program sooner than 6 months but I worked full time & it is time consuming. If you are planning to become certified in ostomy & continence (most people do) you'll be allowed 6 more months to complete the program. Overall, I really enjoyed the program & was very impressed with the staff.

Has anyone recently taken the Wound Care Certification from WOCN. I studied with the WOCN flashcards. Is the 2 hour review course worth it? Scenarios or just content ?
I am trying to be prepared? HELP! I finished all 3 scopes of practice through WEBWOC.
Thank you ,

It was harder than nclex. I recommend a study guide or flash cards. My exam had a lot on fungating wounds and venous ulcers. Also a lot on diet and labs.
