Would you work as a Nurse Extern during COVID-19?

Before COVID started surging, I applied for a nurse extern position. I was offered a position, however, I am rethinking the offer now. I would be lying if I didn’t say I wasn’t scared of the virus especially with having a family at home. I’m also a little hesitant because I’m not sure how this hospital is handling this crisis. I’m a little conflicted.

Externships typically don’t start until June. This may not be as bad then, it may be the same or worse. No one has a crystal ball to know the exact way this will go; only prediction models. The one for my area says peak right at the end of May, shortly before externships would start. Starting to wonder if externships will end up being cancelled much like clinical experiences were. I think for the moment it’s safe to take a watch and see stance for now.
