I'm about to enter nursing school and of course "plan the rest of my life":chuckle I'd like to know, mostly from all the unhappy nurses out there, if being able to work part time would make your career better, or even GREAT? One of the reasons nursing appeals to me is that I can work part time- my family has a business that I love doing- but not all the time- and I've allways been attracted to doing more than one job- helps keep things interesting- I could probably afford to buy my own insurance, just to address that issue.
I graduated nursing school approximately 1 yr. ago. I started out working 80hrs per pay period and did that for 8 mths. I was extremely stressed and always tired, I work nights and felt that I never had any free time. I now work 64 hrs. per pay period and although it is still very stressful I at least have some time to myself and I still have full time benefits, plus the added bonus of I can pick up shifts and make more money for coming in extra. I definitely think part time is the way to go.
Everyone is telling me to start off my first year as a part-timer, what do you think
Hmmm...I would think the opposite. I'm still in school, but I was thinking it would be advisable to be full-time for a year or more and then go part time. No? I really don't want to be full-time either. That was very much part of the attraction to nursing.
