Would I be eligible to go to Excelsior?

Nursing Students Online Learning

Though not too much hope, I sitll post here, maybe I can get some help from here.

I work full-time. The work is long hours and a lot of travel. So though I am already admitted to a local evening RN program, I'm afraid I cannot go because the clincals start 4. Besides, I'm thinking getting a job in an accounting firm, I ca make more money and gain better experience in the accounting career.

I would be so much interested in Excelsior program. However, I do not have any health-care experience. Maybe I'll take a CNA class in the Summer. That's all.

I finished A&PI,II, CHmiesty I,II, English I.II, Microbiology, Sociology, psychology, and have a bunch of Math classes. Is it possible I can get into Excelsior? or some RN or LPN program that are distance-learning based, or only need short-time concentrated clincal training?

Anybody has any information? Please help.

I am pretty sure you need to have some healthcare backroud in order to get into excelsior such as paramedic, RT, LPN etc....

you need to have either your lvn license, be a paramedic, a rrt or have completed 50% of a rn program.there are other qualifications but they are dealing with chiropractors and lay midwives.. there are more but you get the jest. you have to pass a clinical competency test through ec and you must have had some clinical exposure in order to pass that test. it is very stressful and you must be on your toes and up to date with skills. try chamberlin they have a online program for lpn and rn. they are expensive and you would have to travel to their college several times a semester (not sure on how many times) to prove your skills. but if you want it bad enough you'll find a way.. good luck to you!!!!

**Chamberlain only requires you to travel there once at the end of a 4 month semester. It is not every semester either, only the ones that have clinical components. (You do hav to complete 450 clinical hours at a hospital in your area- but you will need to do clinical hours no matter where you go.

Hope that clinical hours will be on weekends. This way I should be able to handle it.

thanks for the information.

You would first need to complete 50% of your clinical time in your RN program. I was a traditional student at my local community college in their RN program with no background in any healthcare field. The only clinical experience I had was through school two days a week for three semesters and a summer nurse externship position I picked up into my second year of traditional schooling. They let me in, so do not get discouraged and believe that you need extensive hands-on clinical skills. Also, when you graduate whether it be from a traditional program or a distant-learning program you will have extensive months of training at a hospital (if you plan to work in a hospital). Good luck. If you really want it, you can do it!

I'm very interested to learn that Excelsior accepts without completion of a program. I was one of 20% of my LPN class that were dropped the last 2 wks of the course. So we have had almost all the clinicals. Does that mean that assuming Excelsior accepts you can get your RN and never have to worry about not completing the LPN?

No. You can get into Excelsior with completion of 50% of an RN program otherwise an LPN license or one of the other accepted healthcare licenses. You can find out what you need to know at their website: http://www.excelsior.edu.
