Not only did I walk in to a storm of frustration, hostility (not towards me) and deteriorating mental health issues of a resident, I found out my folks would not ring for the nurse, or ask the nurses aids to get me because they thought it was different nurse on. I found that out in the morning when I was finally able to give my morning medications.
To top it all off my mental health guy ended up having medical issues needing ambulance transport to the ER, two day staff called in and I got reamed a new on for not finding coverage. ARGH, there was no one to call, none of the managers were answering their phones including the manager on call.
I am still new at this place, but not new to LTC, but still.
I am not sure how my guy was when I left I didn't have time to call the ER to check up on him.
Thanks for listening.

OMG! Sounds like a page from my book! You did great to get through the shift and so far as getting staff in for the call in's. I've tried to make calls while giving meds and dealing with pt's staff, having to send a pt out. Don't take it to heart. I usually find when I have a horrible shift the next one is better. sounds like the person who reamed you was just being a jerk. I hope you stood up for yourself, if not, thik about talking to her again when it's quiet and tell her what you told us. She may be a jerk again, you can't control how people will respond to you, but you stuck up for yourself.
