Worried about not being able to find a job?

Hi. I had a couple of questions for everyone!

When you finished your CNA course, how long did it take you to find a job? I've had multiple people tell me that after submitting a job application, I should call HR and follow up and bug the crap out of them because "some facilities like that" lol not sure how true that actually is. i've been done with my class for over a week and i've applied to several hospitals and nursing homes around my area. i do have a job as a nanny right now but its on a as needed basis and i'm getting pretty antsy to find a job. words of encouragement would be great right now.

also, the next GNA test is coming up in a couple of weeks but the exam is around $100 and I don't have the money for that right now. is it absolutely necessary to get my GNA right away?

In my experience with employers in general they don't like to be bothered constantly especially if they don't have an HR dept and it is the DON/Admin your working with. I would let you application be out for two to three days then call around 0830 - 0900, and check up on it. As for a GNA I had never heard of it, so I googled it from what I read certain states require it in order to work in a nursing home while others do not. So I would contact your state board of nursing on that issue.

I don't think that I would constantly bug them, but I would call them to see when it would be a good time to get an application. Dress nicely because they may give you an interview right there. There are other places as well then just LTC and hospitals to go hunting. Look for Home health Care, Retirement Homes, Rehab centers, Hospice.

When you are talking about GNA are you talking about taking your states tests and getting certified? If you are, some states want you to have your certificate in hand before getting the job. Other states will allow you to work for a little while as you wait to test. Hope that helps and good luck
