received ATT in California after 13 months from Graduating from PH

Published

Hello everyone, I know many of you are wondering how I was able to do it. But first lets look back at the events leading to this moment. I Graduated last march 2012 and applied to the board of Nursing within days of coming back to the US. the process was slow at first, receiving letters of more documents that needed to be sent in and then finally after 7 months I have received the letter that told me I needed to take MS and OB again!!! I went online looking for answers on allnurses.com however I didn't know there were so many just like me who were in the same dilemma. I was shocked and a little discourage.

so I began at once to call every nursing school in California and only 3 schools were willing to accommodate with hundreds on the waiting list. I knew this was no good. this wasn't acceptable but I just sent in the requirements to be put on the waiting list. I then decided to continue my search outside of California, I wrote to every nursing school accredited by CCNE starting from the west coast working my way to the east coast. I was already in Arizona when I received a reply that gave me some hope but it wasn't meant to be.

I then turned to prayer. my mom gave me a prayer to Saint Theresa and I said it every day for 5 days as instructed before 11 A.M. I followed the prayer asking God to help me. and by the 5th day after lunch time I received a letter from a school (I cannot mention names, or contact information as stated by the terms of agreement).

the letter stated:

Good morning *****, I have been slow in my response as I wanted to make sure I had the correct information. below is a copy of the policy which would allow you to enroll in the classes.

Ob will be offered in this upcoming semester which begins Nov *, there is also a med-surg class the first in a two part series which will be offered beginning Nov *, thus you would need to be prompt in your efforts to contact the office of admissions. (it was already Oct 17), we look forward to your response.

Sincerely

Flower (this isn't her real name but it is a type of flower)

from this point I couldn't believe it. I had already contacted nearly 100 schools and this was the first that gave me hope. I replied as soon as possible asking follow up question after follow up question. she gave me instruction to notify the register for my intent along with the undrergraduate coordinator. everything was going so smoothly. I could not believe it. How come? what was the catch?? but I didn't want to say that I just wanted to enroll. this could be my only chance to. then I had to ask, does it come with clinical components? then I she replied yes.

I was so happy. I made arrangements to meet with the undergrad coordinator and had a private tour of the campus. I could not believe that this was happening to me, so smoothly and I was able to comply with all the requirements needed for enrollment. A week later I moved to ****** and buying my scrubs for clinicals.

the first day of class everyone was welcoming to me and these people are some of the coolest people I know for they welcomed me into their cohort. both classes were difficult but then I knew that I would not waste this opportunity. i'm here to study and to pass. work now, play later...

my stay at ******** university was really a lived experience. I had learned so much here from my clinical instructors and my professors. along the way I made some really good friends that helped me throughout the semester.

after 4 months of school I had done it! I passed both classes and complied with CA-BRN. It took nearly 2 months to receive my eligibility letter and then my ATT. I am now scheduled to take the exam next month.

I am writing this post to give others hope. someone told me to write my experience to give hope to others. So don't give up and remember to keep prayer in mind. it really works.

Thank u socalnurse88! I had my appointment set up this coming Thursday with a nursing school director for the evaluation of my transcript. I really do hope they can accomodate me. By the way, how long was the validity of you ATT? Thank you again :) goodluck to your exam!

Was the school able to accommodate you to make up for the deficiencies?

I am waiting and waiting for their reply.

Hi socalnurse88! I dont know yet. I had my tranScript transcribed to have it as a US based one so this process took me 2-3wks. I just turned in my application earlier today. I'm glad that I made it to the application deadline which is on Sept 1st. The admissions office said they currently don't have waiting list for special cases like me. But it would still depend on the number of regular students as to whether or not they'd have a slot for me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It might take 3-6wks for the evaluation process of all possible students so I still have to wait. Better than waiting for nothing at all. So guys, keep trying! Don't give up!

Hi @jhenea_AZN what school did you apply? Would you mind telling me pls? Here is my email add [email protected] TIA :)

Hello! If you don't mind can i ask from what school in the philippines did you graduate from? Did they provide you the documents you needed as well? I just passed the june nle 2013 and we're under petition for cali. I'm worried i might have the same problem as others. Btw did you apply for nclex twice? do i have to apply first to know my deficient courses or can i just take ob and ms right away in a university? Thank you for sharing your story btw. Really encouraging!

Hi there gulliblegabby sorry for the late reply ive been very busy lately. i graduated from SPUM. yes they provided all the necessary documents however it was me who gave them the documents to fill out. you can find the documents on: rn.ca.gov. and look for the application.and just submit to your school the necessary documents that should be completed by the dean.

there maybe a chance that you will have the same problem as myself and others.i think it is important to apply first because you may or may not have to take MS and OB if your cases are concurrent. thanks again for liking my story. if i dont respond please dont hesitate to write in my email.

as for everyone sorry for the delay in responses via allnurses and yahoo messanger. i am working on answering all email concerns questions and comments. thank you :)

I agree with you Jhenea_AZN. if you never try you will never know. who knows right? I will pray that you get accepted into the nursing program. it is something unique and quite different than clinical in the Philippines :) and i am sure you will enjoy like i did

So SocalNurse88 got her deficiency courses fixed yet she/he won't reveal the name of the school so others can benefit. And now all of a sudden the school ain't taking any more students. Why bother post and gloat and keep ya little secret to yourself. There are countless and hapless kids who are desperate to sit to take the exam. I know there are schools here in socal such as Mount Saint Mary but for pete's sake since the school you claimed to have gone isn't taking anymore students why not tell us what this mysterious fantastic school you went.

Hi everyone, I apologize for the disappointment and my misunderstanding but my friends from Southern California all went to out of state universities to take up their deficiencies.

I am so sorry about the inconvenience this may have caused as I did not really update myself clearly with them before I posted that comment.

I hope you can forgive me, I understand all the frustrations you may all be feeling.

As of right now actually I am waiting upon more requirements from my nursing school in order to send to the Ca-BRN.

I can already feel that I am part of this very difficult situation of foreign graduates so as of now I will just keep on the lookout for any school in California that can be of hope for us,

I apologize again and may God Bless us all in this disheartening matter.

I hope Lyly here can help shed some light for everyone here as many of her friends also went out of state schools to complete their deficiencies and able to get their CA ATT's to take the NCLEX-RN.

Hi Jhenea_AZN, can you also tell me which school you applied for the deficiency classes? Thank and looking forward to your message... here's my email add [email protected]

Hi there avi8tor69, i am sorry you feel that way about my post. i assure you i didnt mean to cause you any upset. However i did promise the school that i would not recommend to anyone else because of an incident that happened causing the school to no longer accepting students educated from the Philippines. please reread my post on May 12. i dont know exactly what had happen nor do not know that school shut down its doors until a friend sent me this text stating what happened in an email she received that day. Its ashamed because now i cant help others, i do have information about others schools but im not 100% guarantee what their status is not accepting international students. if anyone is interested about the other schools they have my email and i usually respond in a timely fashion.

and also avi8tor69 thou shall not judge unless he/she will want to be judge back. #imjustsaying
