i work full time in a nursing home where i was assigned by my agency for several months now. Then i encountered an injury during my shift which resulted to pain and swelling to a specific body part. i reported it to my supervisor.Mid-shift, she informed me i will be sent to the hospital for evaluation. After several minutes, she talked to me & said the DNS said im an agency nurse so i have to finish my shift. And that's the only time i can go to the hospital.i worked & finished my tasks till end-shift. No arrangements were made for me to see a doctor. i called friends who told me abt the 866# to Worker's Compensation & i called. They advised me to go to the nearest hospital. I also called my agency & informed them. Because of the injury i sustained, i am temporarily unable to walk normally & unable to work/will lose income for several weeks. My agency promised to take care of medical expenses through Workmen's Comp. I do not have Sick Leave priviledges. I do not know the agreement between the 2parties regarding work-related injury of staff.

I did not post to seek legal advice. Tell me your views as there may be other "agency" nurses who have gone through the same plight. I have no family here and I live alone. I feel things could not have turned for the worse, something feels very wrong here.

It occurred on their premises and they are liable for your injury. The could have caused your serious harm in requiring that you work after you reported an injury.

It's my understanding that worker's compensation not only covers medical expenses but loss of income. Some one should be paying you a percentage of your salary. Here you have to be disabled for a week prior to recieving some monies. Find out who the worker's comp. case worker is for your case and talk to them.

Welcome to Allnurses. We do have an agency forum here. https://allnurses.com/forums/f111/

I moved your post to the Agency Forum for mor responses. Sorry to hear of what happened.

I was a 22 year employee and had health insurance, hurt on the job and was treated in almost the same manner. W/C can be a fight for one's very life with the obstacles they throw up. It cost me 30,000 just to pursue.
