I'm starting school in September 2008 :nurse:and I will still be working full time 7-330 and leaving the hospital to attend class M-Th 530-10pm in Hampton. Talk about long nights. :bugeyes:I believe it will be a challenge for both of us. I know lots of people who are doing the same thing and do fine. You just have to put yourself on a schedule and make sure we both study, read and try to get plenty of rest in between. Because at the end it will be well worth it. :yeah:Are you going for LPN or RN? Do you know the pay in our area? I work for a Sentara hospital doing surgical scheduling and I'm hoping the take my senority and just let me make a lateral move.:chuckle Good Luck!

Thank you for that, I know that it will be hard because i work at the hospital as well and some people that I talk to said that they had to stop working or that they could not work..so I was just a little worried because this is something that I really want to do..but yes, me and you are in the same boat as well and yes, we do have to apply ourself and study study and study hard and work hard...I am going for the lpn program and its 15 months. I just hope things will work out for the best of us.:yeah:..I take that back..IT WILL WORK OUT FOR THE BEST OF US!! you are right..because it will be worth it at the end...The pay in this area for lpn's from what my friend told me is 14-19 an hour depending on what you are doing...What program are you going for?? What school are you attending?

GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING

:nurse:New Horizons Regional Education Center-Practical Nurse Program 18mth program.(Hampton's Votech). The tuition is reasonable (less than VCI--I'm afraid--$8000) and Sentara is paying due to being awarded a scholarship. I hope that I can PM (private Message) you for any help and you can do the same. :wink2: I'm very excited and can hardly wait. I get alot of grunts because people say that LPN's is a waist of time. But, I'm not the one to listen to other people unless I thinK it's valid. :bow:LPN's Rock and we are here to stay!:bowingpurI do however, plan to continue and take a bridge program. I'm looking at NSU (Norfolk State Univeristy) they have day + evening and it's only about 15mths for yoour LPN-BSN. I'm just gonna concentrate on LPN for now.

Good luck to us + those of you who will be starting school whether it be LPN or RN!!!:wink2::wink2:

I'm starting school in the fall and plan to work part time. 24 hrs. 2 12/hr 7pm-7am shifts. I think this will work out okay at least in the beginning. i'm an LPN and I'm starting from scratch in the RN program.(didn't qualify for bridge). Once I'm past the fundamentals, I'll have to see how it goes.:stone

Currently I am working F/T going to school P/T at night- I am still in the Pre-Req's phase, I am also a single mom, but get tons of help from my mom- I know the road ahead of me going to be long and very hard- but I feel the benefits for myself [a rewarding career]- as well as for my daughter [stability] will be well worth it- and I can not wait to get there- I pray each and everyday! LOL I'm nervous and a little worried about when I will actually be in the Nursing program- but I do know other people who have done it -so I am confident that I can do it too... Good luck to everyone- and don't give up!

i am planning to work f/t and attend nursing school in the fall as well.

I know it will be difficult and there will be many sleepless nights. Unfortunately, there are bills to be paid and dreams to be fulfilled. I think it is definitely possible and I've heard several people do it before.

It's only 2-4 yrs and then you will be an RN!!

Hi, I worked mostly full-time throughout RN school and got my BSN. The most important thing is having a manager that understands nursing school and is willing to be flexible with your schedule during crazy weeks like finals, preceptorship, etc.

A job in the hospital will help you immensely, especially as a tech/CNA, b/c you can listen to your instructors during class, then go to work and make friends with a couple of nurses, and tell them what they're telling you in school, and listen to the "real world". This is what I did, it helped me alot. My manager was very flexible, and even hired me as an RN once I graduated! :)

Good luck to you, pm me if you have any questions, I may be able to help.
