Working in Victoria or Corpus Christi?

U.S.A. Texas

I am looking for any and all information regarding competitive pay and the housing market in Victoria or surrounding areas. Currently I work in Alaska and the Cost of living has become unbearable. I make great money but it does not seem to go very far. My parents live in Victoria and I would like to be close to them since they are getting older, plus I have two teenagers! I have been a nurse for seven years and have ER-CCU and PACU experience. What would be a reasonable negotiation/expectation for salary? I am currently making 37.00/hr. Thank you!!

Welcome to the 3rd Coast!

Corpus Christi has extraordinarily low housing costs for a coastal city and is only ~ 45 minutes from Victoria. Couple that with no state income tax & much lower costs of groceries, utilities, gasoline, etc., and it's obvious that your standard of living could be maintained with a much lower salary. Corpus has a wide variety of housing - from midrise condos (downtown or on the beach) to ranch styles in the 'burbs. Victoria is smaller, so the selection is more limited. I urge you to contact the CHRISTUS Spohn system re: employment opportunities. They are the largest health care system in the coastal bend & I'm sure they would welcome someone with your qualifications!

I would also like to know about pay for LVN's and RN's in the Corpus Christi area. I am actually in Rockport.

I am currently taking a nurse refresher course (I've been out of nursing for a while.) When I finish in August, I am going to go back to work as an LVN and then take a 'bridge' program to get my RN. (No choice, but to work! :) )

My best friends cousin recently applied to corpus christi sphon facility as a new graduate and he never heard back from them. He has his license and LPN experience no criminal background. I guess they are no longer new grad friendly.
