Working in Houston while going to school

Greetings all,

I got my CNA a few months ago and I've been working at a hospital in north Texas. I love my job, but I was accepted into the Spring '09 class at TWU's Houston campus. I need to work at least part time to help pay for school (not to mention that working as a tech has already helped me gain a better understanding of nursing as a profession). Are there any nursing students out there that have had good luck with any particular company in Houston? I'm looking for jobs right now but there are very few part time job postings for techs at the med center and I don't think working full time is in my best interest - at least to begin with. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Question about TWU...do you have to have your RN to enter their BSN?

Which nursing program are you doing?

Specializes in Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Managed Care.

It's gonna be tough finding positions in the Med Center, lots of hospitals have official or unofficial hiring freezes on right now but suggest you look into maybe Memorial Hermann on Fannin or Texas Children's Hospital.

Good Luck

They have an RN-BSN and RN-MSN program but you don't have to have your RN to go into the traditional or accelerated BSN program

I haven't seen any med center hospitals that use CNAs, but they do use 'techs'..the CNA certification isn't required that I know of; you do their training.

Are you eligible for a work study position? Talk to TWU financial folks and see if they can find one for you.

Legume,

May I ask what your gpa was and your net score? Or, if you dont' want to share that information, do you know what the cut off or lowest gpa was?

Thanks
