However, depending on how long it is going to be before you all ship out, if you can manage to get a few months experience before he is shipped here, Tripler will happily employ nurses with 6 months experience. (At least from what I have heard, and someone can absolutely contradict me and I won't get my feelings hurt.)
I have also heard that Tripler will give preference to military spouses.
Again, I may be mistaken.
Best of luck!
From a strictly military spouse viewpoint - Hawaii is expensive for military folks. Unless hubby is senior NCO or officer - would want something considerably cheaper. My hubby did 23 years in the Air Force and believe me, when we were stationed in expensive places, our money was very tight. Sounds like the job market in HA is tight, so why not choose somewhere that is more affordable?

Thank you for all of your help! I think it is going to be pretty hard no matter where we go b/c I will be a new grad which sucks b/c I have a perfectly good job that I lined up here since november!!! But... such is life and such is the army. We won't find out for 2 weeks anyway and after your replies I convinced him to put hawaii not as our first choice. Thanks again!!
If you need anything from Tripler, send me an email. I would be happy to stop in and pick it up for you. Spouse Preference varies depending on each job and how it is funded. I would consider ANY base in Hawaii. Tripler is an excellent place to work, but there are many clinics on Oahu.

There are some good job hunting websites starting on page 12.
An excellent way to start is working for a Temp agency. The best job I ever had was at Tripler 3 years ago. Adecco hired me for a 3-month job. I added 10 months to it and got a pay raise as well. Also, try:

Hawaii is expensive, but your husband will be getting a stepped housing allowance (BAH) and you will get COLA if you get hired into a regular position.
I would rather than live in Hawaii than anywhere else, even if I had to have 3 jobs.

hey Almostfree, I hope to pic your brain about new grad nursing on oahu, particularly Tripler. I am planning on moving to the island this fall when my boyfriend returns from deployment and is once again at mcbh kaneohe bay. If you have any pearls of wisdom or contact information about how to get a hold of HR at Tripler (or any of the other hosptials for that matter!) or any other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!
