Working Conditions, Wages and Benefits

Hi, I think I posted my question in the wrong place the 1st time, not sure, so I hope it does not come up twice. My husband and I would like to move to Newfoundland, we are both RN`s in the US. Is there anyone here from Newfoundland? We would be curious about the working conditions, getting full-time, pay, living(we are looking at buying a house). Any information would be helpful. We love it there and hope this all works out for us. Does it really take such a long time? Is there any way to expedite the process? Thank you in advance for any help anyone can offer. Acadia

Is anybody out there aware of what sort of wage I would take home each month as a RN in neonates? I have 13 years experience in level 3 care in the UK and been offered a post but have a family to support and therefore need to know. :banghead:

See my first post on page one. The links in that post will tell you about cost of living in each province, give you an idea of wage grids by province and help you do the math. With thirteen years of experience, if you can get records of employment from the people who employed you proving it, you should be at the top of the pay scale... pretty good money in most places other than major cities.

Thanks janfrn. You have been extremely helpful with advice about pay, etc. I have now been able to work out approximate gross pay, cost of living and affordable housing. Thanks again. :cheers: . I should be over there early next if all goes well.

So you've decided you can make a living wage in Canada. That's great!! Where will you be heading? I have friends in every province pretty much, and have lived in all but Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, but will confess to being partial to Alberta. Best of luck with all the hoop-jumping ahead...

Thank you for the reply Janfrn.Pay wise? how much do you think will i get per hour.. i have 12 years nursing experience. do i need to take exam to work as RN in Canada?

It depends where you are working how much you will make. It will also depend on whether the employer will recognize your previous work experience as to where you end up on the pay grid. Yes you will have to write the CRNE before you can work in Canada. You found your way here, so I'm sure you can find the information you need.
