Hi everyone,
Does anyone know what it's like to work as a CNA in NYC? For example, what is the average salary? Is it very difficult to find a job? Is it even possible to survive on the salary for a year in such an expensive city--and if so, is the lifestyle terrible? Any advice?
Thanks! -NR

awful!
Most places only hire per diem, and not for much.
I work at two nursing homes per diem for $10/hour and $11.65/hour.

I also would like to know how much cna's get because it seems like a lot of work and i believe that they should at least be paid a decent salary.

It's been years but am here to tell you pay wasn't that luxurious back in the 1980's and from what one hears hasn't changed that much (adjusted for inflation).
Hospital, LTC, nursing home, and home care nursing assistants do some of the most unpleasant nursing tasks and at least in NYC area aren't paid anywhere near their value. This is one of the reasons it is so hard to attract and retain good CNAs who want to make a career choice.
I live down the street from a skilled nursing home/LTC in a very well off part of Manhattan, and routinely see the aides walking up and down the street a night looking for empty cans and or other recycling items from the garbage put out for collection.
Being as all this may, here is some information though it may be outdated:

TY for the response. I really prefer to get a Job in a hosptial. However after my training I will figure something out.

My best friend has been a CNA (unionised) for about 6 years...she had worked in hospitals as well as nursing homes and she makes $17.00 an hour.
