working as CNA until NCLEX

Published

Hi,

I graduated this May from a BSN program. Currently I am working as a CNA while waiting to take my boards. After taking the NCLEX, I was told it takes about a month for your results to be mailed to you but that they acutal have your results right after you take the test. I was wondering if anyone knows if I can continue working as a CNA until they mail me my results or if I can only continue working up until I actually take the NCLEX. I don't start my nursing career until the end of summer so I would like to continue working at my current job as long as I can, so I have some sort of income coming in.

Thanks

bon posts license number within 72 hours after nclex is taken at the michigan.gov website. if nclex is passed, then there will be license number and if it wasnt passed, then it will remain pending. you dont need to wait until bon send you your license in the mail. you just need to print out your licensure number from the government website. cant you work as a graduate nurse instead of cna?

Not sure, but I think it depends on the BON in your state and your facility. Some states don't take as long as others to get you your license. But some hospitals won't take the information printed off the BON site. They want to see your license in hand before they will allow you to begin your new role. You might want to check with the facility you work at.

i was wondering about that too. my daughter was in the hospital for three days last week and on her last day there was a graduate nurse working on her team (she was wonderful :)!). she was a recent graduate waiting to take the nclex. i would think working as a graduate nurse would pay much better than a cna?

Anyone know how much is the starting salary of a graduate nurse?

Usually the same as a new RN.. some places will give you a small raise after passing boards. I am currently making the same rate as GN as I will as a RN.

anyone know how much is the starting salary of a graduate nurse?

at the hospital i did my clinicals, the starting wage for gn is $26/hr plus 11% shift differential for midnight shift. not bad huh?:wink2:;)
