Working as a CNA and a LPN at the same time

Published

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew if it was against any sort of rules or regulations of the state (Indiana) to work simultaneously as a CNA and a nurse in different facilities. I'm returning to school to get my RN and have been working as a LPN for almost a year now at a ltc facility. My current job doesn't offer PRN so I really want to go elsewhere so that I can concentrate on my studies and my kiddos. I have found another ltc facility that offers PRN as a LPN but I also want to get my foot in the door at a hospital so I applied to a PRN CNA position at one of the hospitals because they no longer hire LPNs. If I get the CNA position, would I still be able to work as a PRN LPN at the same time at the other facility? Thanks for reading! :)

There should be no problem, but you can contact your Board to verify this.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Geriatrics, LTC.

Not a problem, I don't think...but be careful of being a nurse when you are on the clock as a CNA, could be a big problem.

Check with your State Board of Nursing. Most states say you must work at the highest level of licensure. When you get your RN, you won't be able to practice as an LPN anymore.

Do you mean giving meds, for example?
