Hello everyone! I have just under a year of experience as a RN, and recently moved out of the state I was licensed in. I am currently awaiting the endorsement of my license in my new state, but it is taking FOREVER. I know there are a lot of people playing the waiting game right now, at least we all have each other! My question is...what should I do while awaiting licensure? Would it be appropriate to work as a caregiver etc., or should I not have any patient contact and seek a temporary desk job? I am worried that being out of the clinical setting during this waiting period will negatively effect my job search!
Thank you all in advance!!!!

Would you want to hire someone who was waiting on a license and would be out the door as soon as they got one? Unless employers in your area are desperate or you're already so skilled in something that you can "hit the ground running", you may not be that marketable.
How long have you been waiting?

I have been waiting roughly 6 weeks. I would ideally like to work somewhere that I could stay employed at when an RN position opens up, and just transfer positions. Not sure how easy that would be though!

What is the nursing job market like in your area is there a shortage or surplus of nurses? If there is a shortage of nurses, an employer might consider hiring you as a grad nurse while you are waiting licensure, that way you will be familiar with the position and ready to work as a full RN once you are licensed.

If there are no opportunities and you have clerical skills consider temp office work via a temp agency. They often even staff medical offices and facilities. There's one temp agency that exclusively staffs all non-medical/unlicensed roles at a major healthcare system in my area. Temp agencies are short term even assignments as short as a few days to a week
