Working abroad as a UK qualified RN

World International

Hi

I do not know if this is the correct forum but I thought I would ask anyway. Unlike other countries the uk has Nursing branches -Adult, child, mental health and learning disabilities.

I know that Australia needs Nurses so a uk trained nurse can get a job there.

Anyway What I would like to know is where else can a adult branch trained nurse work. Which other countries?

I know places like America are almost impossible. So where?

Thanks

For AUS you'd need to meet the minimum training qualifications as defined by APHRA and have 3+ years experience. For US & CAN you need to be generalist trained in adult, pedi, geriatrics, mental health & maternity. You have a better chance once generalist trained if you have 3-5 years specialty experience such as critical care or OR theater.

Guys I am not talking about working abroad as a new grad. I want to get 2 plus years experience.

Even with experience you couldn't go to US or Canada without theory and clinical hours in all areas.

Specializes in Critical Care/NICU.

You need to have a think about where you would like to go and then look up the requirements. You can then see what you are lacking and look at getting the requirements.

The UK have changed the degree which means you don't get many mental health, obs, and child hour both theory and clinical. Have you taken these in your degree and if so how much time did you spend doing them ?

You could go to the Middle East with Two years experience, especially if you have A&E, CCU, or ICU experience although nurses from all areas are accepted there. Currently there is no exam for western trained nurses and our UK qualifications are readily accepted.

I have also seen adverts for british nurses in Hong Kong, St Helena and I have known nurses who have worked in the Caribbean with their UK qualifications. Plus Guernsey and Jersey advertise frequently.
