I have signed up with an agency to do prn work in california from lousiana a week or two every month. I have talked to some other people that say i can go on staff in a northern california hospital and do self scheduling 12 to 16 hr shifts and this works also and the pay is higher.....I have no idea how this works....Any other nurses that have info for me please let me know......

I'm kind of in the same boat as you, only commuting from Nashville. I'm working in Orange County thru my registry working 12's and happy to visit with my friends and family who are all still there on my days off. No Cal usually pays higher for some reason and I heard it's a very tough venue to work in. Could be the demographics of the population.
The reason I have to commute is because TN won't acknowledge my California RN license, since I did not graduate from my nursing program....kind of long story but I am taking my final class online to petition for my ASN, a Music Appreciation course.
Yep, I will not be a well rounded RN here in TN without that class. What are ya gonna do? You just can't fight City Hall ! GO TIGERS!!!!!!! Even though LSU got drop kicked last week end by Kentucky! See you as we fly the friendly skies!
Southwest has the best fares by the way, as long as you book at least 2 weeks in advance.
