Does anyone have any insight/feedback for the Wolford School in Naples, FL? I think it used to be affiliated or part of Florida Gulf Coast's school, and it had some problems. Not sure of all the details. Any insight into this school would be very appreciated. Please feel free to PM me if you prefer. Thanks in advance!
rn2crna,
Thank you so much for your time. I appreciate the response. I have not heard from the school yet but their deadline was only a week ago so I figure it'll take a week or two to get an interview invitation.
I am hopeful because I talked to a guy from the school who called me to clarify something on my application and he said everything looked "really good".
I really want to go to this school. I have a good feeling about it just from the website. And what you said about the faculty really pulling for the students fits the picture that I already have in my mind. Are you having a good experience overall?
Sherry62,
Hi. I have mine on the 20th. My husband and I are going to make a trip out of it and stay a few days. Are you going to stay the weekend? I see you are in your 40's too! Yeah.
As far as PMing goes, I have tried to avoid getting email on our home computer. We have to use it for business etc. and get so many emails that I prefer to only communicate via this site. I hope that doesn't offend.
In what other ways are we similar besides both in our 40's, pursuing CRNA school, and going to Florida the same week? I would like to hear how you came to pursue this career.
Hey, I certainly understand on the number of emails, no offense taken. We are going down on the 13th and returning on the 18th-I have to work on the 20th. Is this your first interview??
I went back to school, was an LPN for 13 years, went back obtained my RN, then continued on to BSN. After switching to the ICU and meeting CRNA's, hearing how much they love their job and lives, decided to pursue it. Plus, kids are grown and now is a real good time for us ...and we currently own property in Florida, so this would give us a great opportunity to see if I/we want to live down there permanently. How about you??
Sherry62,
We do have a lot in common. Our kids are grown also. They are not married yet...no grandkids so it's a good time for me to be out of the area for a few years.
I became interested in the CRNA career during the empty-nesting phase. I knew the day was fast approaching that I was going to be alone in the house staring at my kids pictures and crying if I didn't do something extremely challenging. At the same time, I met a CRNA who told me about her career in office-based anesthesia. She let me shadow her a few times and I caught the bug! I have never looked back.
I started my BSN program from scratch with the intention of going to NA school so I tried to get as many clinicals in critical care as my profs would let me. I was able to land a job in an ICU right out of my ADN then worked while I finished my BSN.
I hit the books hard for the GRE right after graduation (in May 05), which I took last September. Then I started applying for Fall 06. I applied to three schools. Got interviews at all three but decided not to attend one of the interviews as the location was more than I could see myself enduring for two+ years. I won't mention the school because it's a perfectly good program in a perfectly good location...for someone else.
The two interviews I attended were for highly competitive programs and I feel like I really wasn't prepared for the first interview. It was a "stress" interview where a large panel of people fired clinical questions at me. I was nervous. It was a good experience though and I learned a lot. I made the alternate list there. The second interview was more layed-back and I enjoyed it. Didn't make the list though.
My next two interviews are at Wolford and OHSU in Portland. It's a brand new program...only accepting 10 students. I feel in my gut that I will have a better chance at Wolford. Hope I'm right.
If I don't make either school, then it's the CCRN test this summer and another round of apps for next Fall.
Good luck on the 17th! You too Businessman!
Hello,
I was wondering if I could have any pointers? I have my interview scheduled for June 7th with Wolford. I'm flying down to FL from PA with my husband and children on the 6th. I was wondering what type of interview style they had, such as a panel of people and possibly what type of questions I should be prepared for. Do they provide info on any stipends at that time? How long before they tell you if you are accepted? Please provide any info-I would appreciate it. Thanks.
What is with all of the unbalanced posts? This reminds me of nursing school. There are people who will constantly want this or that changed and will whine and whine and whine about the situation instead of sucking it up and making the best out of the situation. There is ALWAYS bs. Some people realize that and decided to try get the best education they could in the program. Any program with a lot of people, and many with a few, requires you to have to do a lot of self-educating, and a lot of proactive approaching to clinical work. Some people want it fed to them. That's not life. If people want to name the Pro's and Con's that's fine to me. But be balanced. There are always two sides. You guys really need to think that what you put on this site stays here forever and whenever you put Wolford in the post it will be one of the first things people see when they google it.
Bottom line: This forum is meant to inform, not for you to vent because you thought it would be different. There is no perfect school. This is a newly organized school (on it's own that is) and it will take time. People know that coming in. So just make the best of it! Do you know how to work as a CRNA and can you pass the boards? That should be your focus.
You're right. Unfortunately though these things stay on here forever. And this particular thread pops up everytime you enter Wolford into Google. I am starting Wolford actually in the Fall. I just want people to give school's there fair shake. I have had more than one person that I know be discouraged by these posts, even though they were old and the school had just newly split off. I am sure things are much better and more organized now.
I know I'm excited. I just hate that these old posts stay on here so long.

ICUDOUCME: It's no problem...I remember the feeling of preparing to interview
-I do not know how many applicants there were to either class. Being invited to interview is a good sign of acceptance.
-It is a panel interview. There were 5 faculty members in the interview including 2 anesthesiologists, 2 instructors, and the program director. The interview itself lasted approx 20 min but the entire process lasted a few hours. You will meet with several faculty members including the program director and student services coordinator. You also have the opportunity to meet with current students so that you can ask questions.
-There are many student who commute from Fort Myers. I personally do not think it is worth it. Because of traffic on the interstate, it can take 1/2hr to an hour to commute in the morning.
-There are many students who are "40 somethings". I would say the age range is 25-50 years.
Good luck!
