withdrawing from job offer

Nurses Career Support

Hello everyone. Just new here and looking for more advice. I recently accepted a job offer from this hospital but just also received a call from HR from another hospital. What do you guys think about withdrawing the initial job offer? Is it bad for me, for my career. What do you guys think?

Depends on the hospital. If you never intend to apply for a job at that hospital again, then it doesn't matter. If that hospital is someplace you may want to work at in the near future, it may be an issue.

It also depends on the reason for withdrawing the acceptance. If you were offered a Med/Surg job and wanted ICU and the other hospital offered you an ICU job, then the recruiter may understand.

I did this as a new grad. The hospital I was working at as a nursing student offered me an RN position. I told them I still had interviews lined up that I was committed to. They gave me a deadline so I accepted because I did enjoy that unit, but backed out when one of my interviews offered me my "dream" job at a different hospital. Was that the professional thing to do? Maybe not. But they knew I was still job searching and tried to pressure me. It all worked out fine in the end though and I even worked at that hospital again during my career.
