will universal healthcare ( in the usa) cut RN pay?

Published

I been hearing this debate off and on for a long time about how if Obama gets universal healthcare to go ( if he gets elected of course)though in the US that nursing pay will be cut dramatically. I would think this has to do with the fact that we would all be working for the government and that there will no longer be competition. There are many people in my nursing class that said they will leave nursing if thats the case. I also talked to several doctors that said the same thing about medicine in general. Im just curious if anyone has some good info about this. Thanks

Boy what a pointless 13 pages of jibberish this forum has been. I saw maybe two posts on the change in RN pay with universal healthcare and the rest of the posts have been socialogical debates. BORRRRRINNNNNGGGG.

Who says everyone has to be a CRNA to have a nice life. If someone is that poor their are plenty of government training programs, GED programs, college grants to provide a free college education for people in that situation. They have to be willing to take advantage of the opportunites before them. Even McDonalds pays more than minimum wage.

Wow, that's absolutely fascinating! Since there are "plenty of programs" that offer a "free college education," will you please post some specific examples? It would be immensely helpful to many bright young people who aren't able to pay for college and have found themselves frozen out of student loans this year. I'd be interested as well.

While we're on the subject, maybe you could cite a few programs that offer free health care to people in difficult situations? I mean, only if it's not their fault and they are motivated to get healthier. Should everyone pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, or is it OK to help out those who "deserve" it according to your criteria?

What are your criteria, anyway? And what qualifies you to decide?

You can't have it both ways. Sheesh ... conservative logic is such an oxymoron ... :banghead:

There are millions of people who function just fine with chronic illnesses they are not all destitute and homeless like you would have us to believe. Perhaps looking at bankruptcy as a fresh start might be a nicer alternative. Would you rather we start up some debter prisons to put people in? Bankruptcy serves a great purpose in this country by allowing pople to start over again without the burden of massive creditors hounding them constantly.

Maybe people shouldn't have to go bankrupt, lose their house and car and move into a shelter with their family in order to get treated for an illness or injury.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Obama is NOT for Universal Healthcare. That was part of Hilary Clinton's campaign platform.

That aside, unfortunately I do not believe universal healthcare will ever become a reality in the US. It would require a huge change in the structure of our whole healthcare system and require alot of monetary investment, that, frankly, too many Americans do not want to put the effort into.

And, there is a big difference between universal coverage and socialized medicine.

You have no clue what you are talking about. You are not homeless and do not lose your car with bankruptcy.

If you are poor you qualify for grants which last time I checked was free money. A lot of hospitals and clinics are run by hospitals that serve the poor. I have volunteered time at one that was staffed by PAs. Every city I have ever worked at as a nurse has had a free clinic for the less fortunate. You should try volunteering once in a while and see what is actually offered in your community.

I am salaried by the hospital. I have no problem with medicaid and I have no idea what my patients insurance situations are. The fact that medicaid is available to these women is proof that there is no great health care crisis. The left would have you believe that these women have no insurance and are left out in the cold cruel world to fend for themselves.

I think you need to check your facts on medicaid coverage...................

I think she means that just because you go bankrupt doesnt mean you get health care coverage or other benefits.

I think the person who posted the quote you are referring to meant to say: that one should not have to file bankruptcy OR lose their car OR lose their house to pay for (extreme) medical expenses. That poster was not saying that when you file bankruptcy that you ALSO lose your home and car. At least that's the way I read it.
