will it slow down

Hi, I am a nursing student in a two year ADN program. I am about to start the fall semester of 2004 in NUR 210. I was told if you can make it through 210 you are pretty much in the house to make it as a RN. I also was told if you make through 130 you were pretty much in the house to make it as a RN. someone who has being through the ADN program can you tell me if it will ever slow down and which course of nursing was harder for you, and which one were easier.

Hi, there! I'm in the same boat, but I work with a lot of nurses.

I hear the hard part is right after you pass the NCLEX.

But I also hear that if you are good enough to get into nsg school, you are good enough to get through it.

Lord, I hope that's true.

Best of luck to you, and me, and all us poor dumb slobs.

I found my last semester the most challenging and frustrating. Hang in there. You will make it. Remember, the real learning comes in the first year after you start work as a nurse. You can do it, one day at a time!!!! We have been there and can understand your frustration.

I think I'm in the same boat too. I'm about to start my 2nd year of a 3-year diploma-RN program. I dunno about being easier though. We're about to enter into med-surg and now we have HESI exams this year to pass and if you don't...you're out. Oh well...what's a little more stress??? :)

I agree that the last semester is about the worst. You cant wait till its over, the stress of the testing schedule, then getting through the final things that keep you constantly on edge. The last semestser goes way to slow (seems like you wont ever get done) and way to fast at the same time. Good luck, you'll make it.

it does not slow down. I also found that with each sucessive care plan that we had to do, the standards were raised.

The first care plan we did was pretty simplistic (comesurate with our knowledge and experience). Some students were surprised that each care plan that followsed was graded on a higher standared with higher expectations of the skill and knowledge that you put into it.

All the care plans followed the same foremat but the sophistication of what we put in them was expected to improve.

When you graduate the fun just begins. Suddenly you are the nurse. You can no longer say, "I'll get the nurse." Because you are it. As a student you have that luxury. You don't really have much responsibility or athority.

Then one day you graduate and pass the NCLEX and the very next day you are the Nurse that some student is getting to solve or fix something.

It takes a year (sometimes more ) to get enough of a handle on things to be completley comfotable with this new responsibility.

If you like challenge you came to the right profession.
