Will the nursing program accept me if I repeated a class twice?

Published

Hi I don't know if I put this on the right board but i have a really important question to ask. I'm 19 I go to a community college my major is general studies but i want to apply to the 2 yr nursing program anyways I took all prerequisites outside the nursing program with As and Bs but the corequesite class micro(it was hell) is my problem this class killed me. I took microbiology twice the first time I withdrawed the second I got a D. If I apply now will the nursing program accept me even though I took micro outside the program and let me retake it when they accept me? Oh and my gpa is a 3.0.This is the only class I need before I apply everything else I finished besides the actual nursing courses.

You can talk to the nursing school you're interested to see what they will say. And I don't want to discourage you, but 3.0 is too low to get into a nursing school. I think you must work on increasing it.

At my old school if you failed 2 nursing courses then you were kicked out. not only that, but they changed the requirements and you needed a 76% in a class to pass, couldn't get below a C+ or u had to repeat it. 3.0 isn't spectacular to be honest, but if you have solid experience either working in a hospital or EMS or something thwn maybe you up your chances.

I am afraid I have to agree. In most areas, the competition to get into nursing programs is very high. And if you read the forums here, the competition is extremely high to get the available jobs. You may need to consider a different program for now. You should probably contact an advisor at your school and see what they recommend. Good luck.

I have to disagree I got into nursing school with 2.6. Our requirement to get into nursing school was to have at least a 2.5. And I went to a community college I also had to take a&p II 3X and the third time I ended up taking it at another school and getting an A.

So it is possible. I graduated nursing school IN DECEMBER OF 2010 with a 2.9 by the way.

community colleges often work on a points system in which a 3.0 and failing grades in micro or AP will not get you in.

micro is the basis for an understanding of how living cells function and how we may use external influence to affect their function in a positive manner (medicine). if this is over your head, the rest of nursing is too. sure, you might learn how to turn the key and mash the gas if you go to nursing school in some other country, but here in USA you are expected to understand, at least long enuf to pass the semester, how things work in medicine. we already have too many people in nursing who have forgotten anythign more than how to turn the key and mash the gas.

Talk to your advisor, it really depends on the school. Some schools look down on you if you got a D in a class even if you retook it and got a better grade, and will accept the students who didn't retake any classes before they accept you. The only one who really knows is your advisor.

This is a question you should pose to an advisor at the nursing school you want to attend. We can't speak for the school even if we knew which school you are talking about.

This really depends on the school. In most schools they won't accept you if you have anything below a C in a pre-req. Talk with a advisor/counselor and see what the rules are. It also might be worth looking at what admission requisites are for other schools in your area.

A 3.0 is a little low to get into nursing school, but I got in with a 3.17, so it is doable.

I had to repeat A&P2 and Chemistry because I was an irresponsible teenage jerk (and got C's when I retook them), but I got into my college's nursing program on the first try. Then I got straight A's and B's in all my nursing courses. It's not impossible. Good luck.

I repeated general chemistry and dropped physics and took it at the local community college. If you think you are not doing well in a class drop early. It's worth the money to audit the class, then take it and get an A.

I was math weak but writing and english, memorization strong. When I got into the junior year of our program I went to the top of the class and stayed, all those papers to write! You can do it. Get a tutor if necessary, don't worry about having a perfect GPA just make sure you have the 2.6, 3.0 or whatever they require. One of my friends is the best clinician I've ever seen. She aced the clinicals and sweated the classroom stuff. Our instructors always told her to hang in there because she would be great once she graduated. (and she is)
