Will I make good enough money as a nurse educator in OHIO

Hi everyone!!

I am so torn as to what to do. I want to get my MSN in education however, I am so scared it will not be worth it at all. I live in Ohio and I just want to know, will it be a similar to what I'm making now or more? I make about 48,000 right now in a hospital. Ideally, I would like to still work 2 days a week at the hospital and spend the rest of my time at a university. I'm so lost. Thanks for your help, I'm desperate!!

Universities typically pay much less than hospitals. I took a substantial cut to move to academia. The other consideration is that with an MSN, you will be lower on the totem pole for FT positions, if you are wanting FT.

That said- it was well worth it to me.

^^ What meanmary said. Pretty much everyone who goes into nursing education makes a lot less than they could make in clinical practice (unless you're working in nursing education in a hospital). No one does it for the money.

When I worked as a faculty member in an ADN program many years ago, the college administration used to, as part of their annual fund-raising, encourage all the faculty to donate to the school. I used to tell them that my "donation" to the school was the difference between what they were paying me and what I could be making working clinically in my specialty, and that was a v. generous donation.
