Will i be hard to find a job?

So I am looking to relocate back to NYC after I graduate in December. I'm originally from Brooklyn...but have been living out in Phoenix for a few years. From what I have seen on this board...I'm worried! Is it really that difficult for a new grad BSN to find a decent job out there? I was specifically looking @ NYU Medical Center, NY-Presbyterian, VA Medical Center, among others. Anyone having issues finding a job even with a BSN?

I have friends who are nurses, and they tell me that BSN graduates should have no trouble at all. Some hospitals might be alittle more competitive to get than others, of course, since many people want the same openings. However, in terms of general employment, you should have no trouble. Hospitals in NYC prefer BSN candiates over others, so you should be ok. I'm currently a nursing student going for my BSN.

AZ Student Nurse, you have the same idea as me...I'm currently going to school for Nursing, I live in Maricopa, AZ now, but was thinking about moving back to NY for work (from the BX). I too was reading some of the posts about the hardships of finding a job for new grads, and was starting to rethink my plans. So thanks for having the same thought...

I know I think its crazy! You figure that the biggest city in the US would have more openings!! Phoenix being the 5th largest has plenty of new grad positions from what I've seen tho..unfortunately lol So more than likely I will stay out here for a yr after graduation..then do travel nursing..go back to NYC that way. At least it'll be a guaranteed position..pay and housing. Good Luck with everything! Nice to see that I am not alone

I dont think that you should have ANY problems finding a job. Right out of school, I had 3 offers. One at NYP-Cornell, One at Maimonidies, and one at Methodist. That was just with my associates. I mean granted, it's 4 years later but the last time I checked, NYC had about 10k nursing shortage. Good luck, hope it all works out.

Well, you can forget about NY Presbysterian. If you have not done your clinicals there ( and a whole lot of other requirements), you can't work there as a new grad.

I think it's kind of ridiculous, but whatever.

Anyway, I live in Maryland, but am from Bk an I found it hard to find a job. I didn't really have a pulse on what the hospitals expected and when to apply.

Judging from this board, it looks like the majority got their jobs after they passed the NCLEX.

Many of my classmates in MD had an offer while in their last semester in school. I dunno, it's kind of weird.

So, when I'm ready to move, I'll probably do some traveling to subsidize my move.

I didn't do ANY of my clinicals at NYP and I was hired on as a new grad. Also, I knew quite a few nurses who came on before they passed their nclex. I really don't know what is it that they look for in their applicants. I've never interviewed for an RN position in NYC and not gotten an offer.

Do you like NYP as a new grad? Ive been in touch with their recruiter and new grad program coordinator- and they seem awesome. I'm looking for a job for January- and they said they don't interview for January until Novemberish.. so I'm just kind of in a wait zone- but I really want to be there!

And I'm so glad to hear you say you hadn't done clinicals there- that made me worry, I'm from SC so obviously I haven't done clinical there....

Every floor is different but I absolutely loved it. I am no longer there because I moved out of state but the staff was awesome. I still speak to some people from my original orientation group. The orientation process is VERY thorough.

That's so good to hear! one more question.. Did you have tech experience (lpn/patient care tech) something before you applied? I have had previous jobs but none in healthcare- my program was an Accelerated- bsn and it left NO time to work in the hospital....

I got hired at NewYork Presbyterian as a new grad and never did clinicals there, so it is possible.

Like the previous poster, I had no previous healthcare experience.
