Wichita Falls Texas Nursing school

Published

My husband and I may be moving to Wichita Falls and I need as much info about nursing schools in the area. I prefer vocational schools so I can finish as quickly as possible. I saw Vernon college. Is this a regular community college? I'm not sure how entry into programs work there but it sounds like entrance tests need to be passed and your in. Thats definitely not how it works in california unless its a vocational school.

But any info and links will help!

Hi!!

Yes, Vernon College is pretty much the only college (vocational) around here. Well, within a hour anyway. I did the LVN program there in '05 and have applied for the upcoming Summer 2012 LVN-RN transition program. You do have to have your basics done with a 2.5 gpa, pass the Hesi A2 entrance test, and if you are already a LVN and plan on transitioning they recommend you to have Pharm and Health Assessment done (again recommended not required). Entrance is also based on how many applicants they have and your timeliness in applying and having the required paperwork returned to them.

There is also Midwestern State University, who offers a BSN program. They are much more competitive and expensive. The entrance there is based off a point system including: GPA, entrance score, expirence, how many classes you too at MSU, etc.

Vernon (www.vernoncollege.edu) is a regular community college. They have an LVN certificate program, which requires you to take the TEAS test (deadline is mid-april for fall admission), apply to the LVN program and the college, and then nursing classes start in August.

They also have an ADN - RN program which requires a year of prereqs, an admission test, and then two full years (5 semesters, including a summer) of 'nursing' classes.

AND they have an LVN-RN Transition program which takes three full semesters, if you're already an LVN and have all of the prerequisites done.

MSU is going through a tough time right now with very low pass rates on NCLEX (below 40%, I have heard) and lots of cheating. They have a BSN program.

Disclosure: I graduated with my ADN from VC, had a bad experience (very bad!) at MSU in the RN-MSN bridge program, and am currently completing my BSN online through UT-Arlington.

Hey! I know this post is REALLY late, but I'm attending Vernon, and want to get my BSN through UT-Arlington. I was just wondering how prepared you felt about the transfer from the schools. Did you feel fully prepared upon entering UT?
