Why is there such a shortage in Home health kiddos? Is the pay bad?

I am a new to Home health care for kiddos with trachs and g tubes. I supervised 25 or so really good nurses but I wish we had more. We get referrals every day with no one to work.

i try to be supportive, and give cards of thanks. What do you really want to hear? I am here in Ohio and want to make a difference.

When pay is at par with the new minimum wage, you are not going to attract many employees. Most employers around my area say they will not raise the wages of LVNs, and those that pay RNs more are mum on the subject. Not many RNs want to work extended care to begin with. Not sexy like working in acute care. Never will be considered sexy. Know what I mean? :oldman:

Yes, the pay is terrible compared to other areas of nursing. When I was a supervisor in a home health agency (I worked the skilled nursing visit side, which is more what this home health forum is about, but we had a large private duty population as well), RNs were paid a base pay of $27/hr regardless of experience. That's how much I made as a new grad in a hospital 5 years before I started that job. When I see job postings for this same agency today, they advertise $28/hr for RNs. They've raised pay a whopping $1/hr in 11 years.

Medicaid cases here pay $20/hour for RNs. Hospitals pay $30 or more, plus shift differential for nights and also shift differential for weekends.
