Why are RN's not drawn to HH? Only LPN's?

My agency is awesome to work for. We have many good LPN's and get app's from LPN's all the time. The problem is that only RN's can do the admits, recerts, resumps and discharges. We are having to turn referrals down right and left because we only have two RN's. We never get a reply from our ads from RN's. I wonder why? Anyone know? I personally think HH is nursing best kept secret! Great Hours, Great Pay.....What could be better?

When I got my job with them, they asked LPN or RN, I said RN and the DON was like OMG a real live RN!

Specializes in med-surg/ telemetry/PEDS.

I felt uncomfortable with the risk involved.I experienced bad neighborhoods, relatives "living" with the elderly or disabled patient, who wanted free meds or nursing care, ie, "While your here take my blood pressure",(blood sugar, look at this spot on my leg etc.) Unsanitary living conditions(roaches, filthy homes, one patient had 32 cats and refused to get rid of them! (State health was called!) Also the patients who were noncompliant. It all just felt uncomfortable to me. I lasted 18 months and then split. YUK!

well i am just a student and though HH sounds interesting, i would be worried about the people having mean dogs. I am not a dog person and could just see some little old woman saying "don't worry honey he won't bite" while the dog is drooling and growling at me. :uhoh21: makes me sweat just thinking aobut it.

I found that home health care just wasn't for me because of the conditions under which you work. A sterile dressing change with the family pet sniffing the sterile field or just filthy places was enough to turn me away. I feel I really need a controlled setting to do my work safely and effectively. Don't get me wrong, the HH nurse I followed loved her job and had some really good "regular" patients (had seen them for years). I just don't have it in me.
