Is it normal to be nervous while taking the preq for nursing school. I have not even applied yet for the program and I am already nervous wondering If I would make a good nurse and all the drug stuff you have to remember and knowing you are dealing with pts lives. Is this normal. Also I am not the best in math I am just worried I mean I want to become a nurse so bad and i have always been told I would make a good nurse but I am just so nervous. Has anyone else ever been like this. I am not nervous enough to give up just have some slight anxiety over it that is all:sniff:

i was nervous during prereqs, but not nearly as much as i am now...and i start nursing school in 16 days! my prereqs flew by and i can hardly believe that i am getting ready to start NS. my advice to you is just take it one day at a time and give it your all.

i went to a "how to be sucessfull in nursing school" workshop that my school offered and i feel a lot better about classes now. the facilitator told us that she believed nurses are born, not made and that you just know that its what you are. she said that there will be times when you doubt yourself and ask "am i really cut out for this?" but that we just need to stay strong and focus on the big picture of our dreams and future.

as for thinking that you will not be able to do meds, that is what you go to school for! they train you how to know what to do and i'm pretty sure that it becomes habit on calculating the drugs and you will hae a drug handbook and a calculator. good luck! i'm sure you will do great!

Don't be nervous about pre-req's! It goes by soooooo fast and before you know it, you're getting into NS! When I was doing my pre-req's, I thought it was going to take forever. Was annoyed rather than nervous. Just calm down. Save all the "nervous-ness" for when you are in the program ;P

GOOD LUCK!

Remember to be realistic. The majority of students that took pre-requisites with me were not accepted into nursing school. Most of the things that you've mentioned won't matter if you don't get in. Some of my classmates that completed the pre-requisites and were hoping to start in a nursing program are actually on long waiting lists.

Take it one step at a time. Don't mess up your pre-requisites. Don't worry about tomorrow :no:when you need to focus on today.

I've often wondered what happened to the 100s of people who were in my pre-reqs with me. Only about 2 or 3 are now in the program with me, and 2 or 3 in lower levels of the program (meaning they were accepted later than I), but...where is everyone else?

I would forget about clinicals and nursing school right now. Focus completely on prerequisite classes. You will need top notch grades to get into a program anywhere in the country. Study your butt off....believe me.....it's an awesome feeling to get accepted! Let us know when you start your prereqs and if you need any help.

Good luck.

I couldn't agree more. Competition is steep. Just take it one week at a time and enjoy the learning experience. Once you get into nursing school, the pressure is off, so focus on prereq grades.

I was so scared about going into the clinical setting. Don't worry. Everything is given to you in baby steps.

I am almost done with all of my preq I have a few more classes I can apply for the nursing program next year

All you can do is take one day one assignment at a time....there were plenty of days where I had 3 tests and clinical research within 2 days during a week. Take it any way you can get it. It's challenging to know that you are learning how to care for people...and tougher to understand that you have to communicate with families and doctors about patients...but it's your job..you do it because you care. You will be a good nurse...trust in that.
