WHY IS THIS SO HARD??? (I kid, I kid)

Published

Of course I knew this was going to be hard... It is RN school. BUT I am half a semester in and I swear the nursing program instructors are so bogged down with so many students, they are overwhelmed, and we are overwhelmed, and nobody seems to be feeling like we are getting anywhere... They never have answers to our questions, and put us off until it is too late, they are constantly changing the schedules on us, and end up rushing lecture in order to keep a test date, and it throws us off... I am a 4.0 student who has a freaking C in nursing school. We start our clinicals next week and not a darn one of us know if we can do a care plan. We turned ours in THREE weeks ago, and still have not got a grade back, so we will be starting next week having no idea if we are able to do a plan of care. It is so frustrating. I am not a nurse, and so I have no clue what I am doing.. I will be honest. I really have no idea! I read and study the chapters, but so far, they are pretty much anatomy stuff which we have already had 2 semesters of... Is this normal? Everything is so darn disorganized and confusing and I am really starting to get discouraged.

ahh, i was in your shoes not too long ago. It seems like a giant clusterfluff (nice way of saying it) at first, but as the semesters go on it will still be challenging but the core content will become second nature. Most everyone in my cohort, our grades took a dive because the material is super different than what were used to.

You'll get better at it and be able to pull your grade back up:) dont freak over C's... C's still get degrees & your there for your degree and your RN license..right? :)

In terms of care plans, im still a little fuzzy on them yet, but having a care plan book works wonders. You just plug the info in.

Sparks & Taylor is the one i use..i suggest you make good friends with it lol.

Youve made it this far...keep on truckin'! :)

I'm sorry. YOur school seems to be disorganize and it affect you.

My experience as a first semester nursing student is opposite. I feel like I really turning my brain into "nursing mood". I don't know if I can do a care plan. We are not required to do so. But I can feel that all nursing thing start to kicking in.

And I'm a 4.0 student. However, I feel like I can maintain 4.0 through my first semester at least

Each school runs things a bit differently. If you are worried you can look at their NCLEX passing rate for some assurance. I bet it will all smooth out soon.

In the beginning there were a few things disorganized for us as well. Now we are waist deep into 1st semester clinicals, writing care plans (nrsg diagnosis, goals, outcomes, interventions, assessments, rationals, and evaluations), and doing our clinical prep sheets for each clinical (Worksheet where we write about the pathophysiology of 4-6 of our patient's medical diagnosis, signs and symptoms, as well as more assessments, interventions and rationals).

Hang in there. It will come together for all of us.

We are all students and we are all learning. Don't give up. I have cried quite a few times already. Go ahead and let the tears flow, but make sure you pick yourself back up and continue this journey.

i am in an amazing nursing program. I absolutely love our instructors and we have a brand new state of the art lab and facility. Its amazing... BUT not everyone is so lucky. As another previous poster said you should check the Nclex pass/fail percentage and talk to some of the upperclassmen. Maybe its just the beginning of the year bumps and after a bit it will get better. I wish you lots of luck!!! hang in there

that's what she said. sorry, immature, but I couldn't resist.:chair:

sorry you're having such a hard time, my program is bit disorganized too, but I'm too far invested in it at this point to do anything. I try to complete all my work on time and do my reading so I'm not totally lost on the floor. Luckily, I've had some great experiences during clinicals.
