Why do I dislike when people ask me question just because I am a nursing student

Published

Hello,

I am currently in my last year of my BSN program. I'm surviving I could say. I really enjoy what I do in nursing school especially in clinical. The only thing I dislike is the amout of readingss (ugh) and the fact that people think I know everything.I really dislike it when friends and family members ask me about their medications, their self-diagnosis, the reason for their x-ray and blood work, and etc. It's not like I know everything. And when I would not be able to answer them, they would look at me like I am very incompetent. I hate that feeling. Pressure for nursing school is already a lot, I do not need people looking at me like i am dumb and saying stuff like "you're almost graduating, you should know this by now". Maybe its just me but I really do not like this part of being a nursing student.

Do you guys have any experince in this? What are your thoughts?

Get used to it. It only gets worse once you have passed your boards. "You really ought to see your doctor about that." Easy peasy.

You could just say that you don't feel comfortable giving specific advice and then direct them to a reputable source for information and/or their doctor. If they press you, I would just say that I would feel awful if I missed something important and its best to talk with their primary care provider.

I just say, "You probably need to poop."
