Why can't CPI be 2 years like everything else?

We don't use CPI but something similar. We have to do an annual 8 hour training and I find it tedious as the morning session on verbal de-escalation is the same thing every year (x10 for me now). As in the SAME THING. Handouts don't change and neither does the presentation. And it's taught by someone who hasn't ever practiced psych nursing and spends the entire 4 hours talking about herself. With that said, the afternoon portion of physical interventions is quite helpful as we don't use those skills often. I would like to see it just be the afternoon session.

Most of these crisis intervention/de-escalation programs are purchased, copyrighted material, and the material (content and handouts) doesn't change from year to year (facilities want their employers to have a consistent, uniform approach to dealing with crisis situations, and to respond almost instinctively. At least in terms of the physical interventions, it would be riskier to change the skills from one year to another and present a variety of options over time). The value is considered to be the repetition and reinforcement of the same content and skills/techniques. And I've worked some places where the skill of the instructor and quality of the presentation was pretty poor! However, as long as I'm getting paid my standard hourly wage to sit through it, I don't really care how lousy the instructor is. :)
