I chose oncology because I am a 4 yr breast cancer survivor.
I had great oncology nurses.
I wanted to do something with the rest of my life besides waiting to see if I would survive 5 yrs, 10 yrs etc..
So now, I am fresh out of nursing school and starting my career as a brand-new oncology nurse!
Wish me luck!
Roughmatch Wish you the best of luck.I myself am going for treatment for breast cancer. Had a lumpectomy and am now doing radiation.
This is great to hear I manage an oncology unit, and almost everyone of my nurses have a loved one going thru cancer. This just makes you a better nurse, because you can relate to the patient. Good luck.
I chose oncology as their are limited cancer hospital in my country. I thought it's a emerging scope of nursing. But my bad luck now i m having tough time to search a job related to my field due to limited hospitals. in addition nurses are paid less and moreover any non specialized nurses can work on it.
I'm not an ONC Certified nurse but, I do work in Oncology and I really love working with people who have cancer. They are the most appreciative people you can possibly work with. I also find much satisfaction in providing dignified care to those who need it the most. It's rough emotionally sometimes, but the success cases make all the bad days worth it. I just feel like I'm really making a difference working in Oncology.
I really want to work in peds oncology. I feel I chose this because I want to be able to use my learned skills from school to make them feel somewhat better, however I want to use skills that cannot be taught in school such as my bubbly personality, AND strength just to make them laugh and smile, even if its just for a little while.

I'm keeping it simple here ...
Why did you choose oncology? Why do you stay? :heartbeat
