Why should there be a certification to be a nursing assistant?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I feel a lot of it is pretty easy work to learn. There are already personal care assistants, nursing assistants (that aren't certified) that are in hospitals, home care aides, without being certified. I feel the only thing that you should be certified in is BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid/CPR. I just don't see how hard it is to take a person to the bathroom or check vitals (an automatic vital thing is used mostly), go from room to room to see what a patient needs. It can all be easily learned in a nursing home where the assistants aren't even certified. CNA is very basic compared to what RN/LPN's do. What do you guys think?

Maybe because they want the standards for the nursing assistants and for them to develop there self not only in taking care or bedside care for patients..

I have been a CNA since 1996 and it is true that each state has it's own registry for nursing assistants. Being certified in Texas is a must most places here will not hire you unless you are certified. Now that I have almost completed nursing school I realize how important it is to have an aide that you can trust with duties that you will be delegating to, you are saying I trust their training and their skills. But I am still responsible for that patient if anything goes wrong. Very hard job, but satisfying knowing that you helped someone that couldn't help themselves.
