Which one did you do while in Nursing school?
I am a recent nursing school grad. I worked full time hours on the week ends in a hospital Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights.. And full time program my hospital and manager were great in working with my schedule. My clinical days were in Monday's one semester and Tuesday the next.. If your employer is willing to work with you then go for it. I had no choice but to continue to work full time. One kid in college , one graduating high school and another in high school, house cars insurance water gas lights graduation packages 4 dogs. I'm sure there's more.. I guess u can sum it up as each person and situation is different. It depends on your specific situation and mind set. But do what you have to do to pass nursing school and to take care of home.. Good luck with everything.

Anyone skip pharm and pass NCLEX?
Well I took my NCLEX first time on Sunday 6/7/15 had 75 questions and it cut off.. Found out today I am an official RN on the BON website.. I did have pharm questions but the purpose of the board is to make sure you are a safe nurse so you won't get info you have to regurgitate like in nursing school. I studied all the major drugs lol, prils, antipsychotics, arbs, aces and the major effects. But do study them even if you get only ten and you get them right it could be the difference in keeping you above the line....

CNA Internship- Is this worth the money?
Wait you pay them to work for free? Here in Texas they pay you to work. There should be lots of places that will hire a fresh graduate CNA. I was a CNA for ten years and never had a problem securing employment. You are a critical part of the interdisciplinary team and I would not pay for experience if you did all that was asked if you studied and passed your state exam you are ready for the work force. GIID LUCK!!!

Need help to file petition for declaratory order?
The Texas Bon website has all the answers. You can also call them toll free. So here is what I know. First get all court records from the county where the offense occurred, you will need to submit those with the petition, write a letter explaining what occurred and why and how you have changed it and made it better. Get your finger prints done it will need to be done anyway at some point, along with an FBI department of public safety check which can be done with fingerprinting. Make sure you use the place your school has set up to do the prints- we used morphotrust. Do it early send all with the fee required. Then wait for an answer the earlier the better can take as long as 3-4 months to get an answer. After a decision is made they will send u the order and any stipulation, you will sign it make yourself a copy and return it. Then you will receive the final order, same thing sign make copy and return to Bon. Hope this helps a little bit if you have specific questions let me know it go directly to the tx bon website.. GOOD LUCK!!

Relocating to Dallas, TX-- Insight needed!
Wow this is strange, my brother is in the coast guard stationed in Williamsburg Virginia , I live in Dallas and in nursing school and I work at Baylor, currently Baylor only hires BSN's not because one or the other is better it's an accreditation thing the more BSN's employed the better ur chances if passing their requirements , but not impossible to get hired, parkland and some of the other hospitals in the area do hire ADN routinely, Presbyterian, doctors hospital, all the Methodist hospitals in Dallas , parkland just gave a cost of living raise saw it in the news so pay went up for all employees there , most if the rest if the hospitals usually follow suit to be competitive. Lots if great places to live here, you can go to the city of Dallas website and look up different areas and it will give average rent and info in schools, crime, and shopping in the area. Best if luck and come on down to Texas we'd love to have you.

LVN Schools, help!
Hey LunaPaula , I also went to Navarro college and did all my prerequisites there in waxahachie. I am now a RN student in Corsicana. Navarro had a great LVN program and also has a bridge program so when your ready you can just continue with the same school. I love the program, instructors, and my class mates they get you prepared and ready for giving safe compassionate patient care... Give them a call. LVN AT WAXAHACHIE and Corsicana campuses

Awkward moment?
Great that you are thinking like a nurse and working on your delegating skills set forth in the BON website on delegating. Trust me when I say this, but the bad CNA that you have run across were good at one time and really believed that what they were doing was helping someone, but along the way some one or something turned them into the CNA from hell. Maybe because no one show them that they are appreciated and needed, showed them respect or tested them. Yeah as the nurse you are responsible for that patient so if the CNA doesn't do their job well guess who they come to for the answer.. Yes they have to gain our trust but it's Also twofold they are not trusting you yet either as the nurse. Give a little to get a little. Trust that is! So the talk about just let the CNA do it to the PCT will get you nowhere with the CNA's. For example I used manage an assisted living residence. I was the CNA who worked my way up in the ranks. I never forgot where I came from and the feeling I had when I was a CNA low on the totem pole. I still helped out when I could and it help me gain their respect as a manager now. Yes your drug calculations are important do them, give your meds and go ask the CNA if they need help with anything the answer will be no but just asking let's them know that you care and they are part of the team not just the blowout cleaner uppers.

paying for "life" while in full time school
If this helps any, I'm a full time nursing student here in Texas , I also work full time, Friday , Saturday and Sunday nights 12 hr shifts. I pay for my classes out of pocket, no FA. Have three children a wife and four dogs, a house payment and two car payments, and all the bills that come along with this. Son just graduated.. $.. Daughter is a senior$ and youngest in gymnastics $.. If I can do it so can you. You just have to do some creative financing and cut out a lot of non essential things, like eating out, shopping for clothes that you really don't need. It's been a long time since I had a new pair of shoes or clothes. I usually wear scrubs every day anyway ,just me. But it can be done.. My instructors said I wouldn't have time to work but I don't have a choice in the matter I have to live and provide for my family no matter what. So take a good look at your time and schedule and sit down with a calendar and writ it all down it really helps if you have an employer that is willing to work with you also. GOOD LUCK!! And GOD BLESS!! It can be done.

Working while in Nursing Program
I'm in my third semester and have worked full time and passing with very good grades. For me I don't have a choice I'm an older non traditional student, meaning I'm a guy in the nursing program instead of the welding program. I have a mortgage , car payments , kids in high school and jr high. Once you start, figure out how much time this program will take and how much you have to study. I don't have to study a lot cause I have been in health care for many many years and it is stuff u have all heard before so it gives me more time to work. I only work week ends so it allows me sleep time and time for the family, but I'm committed to weekends and that's when all the good stuff is happening but you do what you have to so that you finish and graduate.. So feel out your first semester and make adjustments as you go concerning work and play. GOOD LUCK!!!
