Why did you become a nurse?

Published

Just a general question...Why did you become a nurse, or want to be a nurse?

Ive had a couple RN's tell me that now it NOT the time to become a nurse, and if you work as a nurse, you will get sued!

Can you believe it>?

Well...Im interested to know WHY some of you became nurses?

I was very idealistic when I first got out of school and wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. After so many years, I can truthfully say that it is just another job to me but one that brings a bigger paycheck. I will probably do it until I retire. There are still some days that bring me lots of satisfaction--like when I catch changes in a patient's status and help avert an impending problem--so I am not totally burnt out with nursing. I even think it was my destiny because no matter what I did prior to nursing I kept getting steered back into the nursing field. And here I am. :rotfl:

I became a nurse because my mom has many health probs and my sister had MS and eventually passed away and I was always taking care of them but the pivotal moment came from a nurse taking care of my mom and I was asking her all types of questions and she asked me-are you a nurse-and I said no and she said-well you should be you act just like one and you m,ight as well get paid for what comes naturally to you.

That nurse changed my whole life I was a PE major and I changed my major and only have 3 semseters to go. I wish I knew her name so I could tell her how much she inspried me.

I became a Nurse because I like to help people, like many of you have already said. Also because I was raising 3 kids on my own and knew I would always be able to support us.

I WAS 8 Y/O WHEN I READ MY FIRST FLORENCE NIGHTENGALE BOOK AND KNEW FROM THEN ON I WAS MEANT TO BE A NURSE. NOW I CURSE EVER READING THAT @$#$%#* BOOK :chuckle
