Who worked New Years? How was your shift?

We had all the usual drunks in the ER. One nurse had 3 sitter patients- poor thing. People seem to use the holidays as a time to overdose. I had a crazy staff splitting patient who I sent up to the floor who called me 1/2 hour later to tell me that I should explain to her nurse how her pain medicine works and then she made some racist slur about the nurse and how she doesn't understand what she was saying. We had one guy who came in 3x by EMS each time not getting what he wanted obviously. Then he assaulted the EMS personnel so we got the police on him.

I worked the 31st through the 3rd. I'm a cardiac nurse and there were many STEMI and NSTEMI's! One pt. coded at 0002 on 1/1 in the cath lab and didn't make it. My most "interesting" was the grandma who did meth to ring in the new year. Kids, don't do meth. It's really bad...😧

One pt I was supposed to get went to my colleague, ten minutes after arrival to the floor she stroked out. A lot of busy poop issues. And then at 650am, right before i was due to give report and go home, thinking I got out unscathed, my pt needed a stat CT and ended up coding down there. fml.

So, it was busy.

Labor & delivery nurse here! I worked new years! Helped deliver the first baby of the new year in my state. Then had to do a D&C for a retained placenta. Then helped with another delivery. Then helped in a csection for triplets. It was crazy busy!

I did. I couldn't sleep the night before aka new years eve because my neighbors were partying so I was cranky!
