Who all will be applying to nursing school this spring?

I will be applying to my schools nursing program in Feb for the fall.

My school goes by a point system and it is just hard to get into it (like many of you here). I have the highest points possible for GPA and classes completed (done with them all for ADN, still working on BSN pre-reqs). We also have points from the COMPASS test and I have all the maximum points on that for reading and writing but still need to up my pre-algebra points.

I've been spending my break here studying for the math/pre-algebra portion of them exam.

I'm also looking into volunteering at the Cancer Center at my hospital for an extra 2 lousey points (but hey 2 points could make or break me getting into the program!). I think the experience would be great though, even if all I an do is a few hours a week.

So who all else will be applying soon for next fall?

Ill be applying to JCCC in Kansas in January. It is a very hard program to get into and I am very nervous about the interview. The only thing I have going for me is when they calculate the entrance GPA they only look at the classes you need for your ADN. YEA!!! so the F in spanish doesnt hurt me....lol

The interview is 60% of acceptance and I dont know what to do. From what I have heard its all kinds of questions like..." If yo uhave never been to a place and you have an interview there how do you ensure that you will get there on time" Or " your running late to work and you spill coffee in your lap, What do you do."

Kinda dumb questions to me but they seem loaded so I am afraid of what to say...

Any pointers...PM me.

I am trying to get into the University of Washington School of Nursing and I feel as if my chances are nil ! :o They really are though so I have a few other schools I am looking at but am feeling very pressured as I need to have all my applications done in two months, I am taking 23 credits, Including a very scary weeding out class averege is 55 biology class!, fundrasing for Luekimia and Lymphoma, Training for a marathon, trying to lose weight for a vacation, Maintain my non smoker staus (6 months) and basically trying to hold on to some semlence of my sanity! My GPA is a 3.6 without my algebra grade, and I have my CNA and First Responder, but I still doubt my chances of even being waitlisted!

Is there any hope for me? Aghhhh! The stress is truely killin me! If anyone has any tips, or words of wisdom, or an extra bottle of tums I would LOVE IT!

AC439 & Tinuviel,

I live in Central FL too. Im in Daytona beach right now but Im moving to Orlando in two weeks. Im admitted into an LPN program that starts in June at Orlando Tech, and Im applying to Seminole Community College in Lake Mary for their RN program that starts in August. Have you looked into their program? Its pretty much first come first serve if u meet the minimum requirements but ppl who have all prereqa get in first.

My guess is you all are looking at Valencia and/or UCF. On UCFs website the nursing application is dated 2006!!! Is this true that they are taking apps for 2006 right now??? Thats crazy!

I dont know if either of you have considered LPN first and then the bridge program to become an RN, but Orlando Tech has an LPN program that starts in June part time (18 months) and August full time (12 months). And Seminole Community College has an LPN program each February. their web page is http://www.scc-fl.edu. Im on the alternate list for this February(fingers crossed) because I applied early but there was a mixup with my transcripts. I would choose Seminole over Orlando Tech, but if I dont get in this time around at SCC Im going to Orlando Tech this June. But either is a good option around the tough competition for the schools that rank u by a point system.

their RN program starts twice a year(one day program and one night and weekend trac). They have a partnership with UCF where is only takes I believe two semesters to get your BSN.

Hi Luv4nursing,

Thanks for the info. I also looked into ORL Tech yesterday too but my wife is against the LPN idea. She stresses on clinical. I also browsed UCF web site and they have a BSN for people who have BS degree in another field which kind of fits my situation. But my other BS degrees are mainly engineering and computer science (also from foreign country) so the pre-reqs are not quite transferable. I don't think I will be able to attend SCC since I live in Polk county. VCC seems to be very competitive (1:4 ratio) but after talking to the advisor, the application criteria seems NOT to be based on high GPA but based on the number of courses (science and general) completed. So, I'm working crazy on CLEP to boost my credits as well as getting pre-reqs completed before the application deadline. I think if I can get my AS degree done (too bad that I can't do it online because getting clinical hours is the issue) first, then I can do most other further nursing education (such as BSN) online.

I think I started a similar thread, but it probably died a slow painful death, like most of my threads do :chuckle

I'm applying to a BSN program where the junior year/nursing core begins in July 2004. I already submitted my application and was told they begin reviewing them sometime in January, based mainly on GPA/ACT scores. Not sure when letters will begin going out.

I have FIVE pre-reqs to complete this semester, in case I get in, those have to be completed by June - so I'm going to be a little extra-stressed this semester between those classes, my full-time job, my two little kids and separating from my husband. Yeesh!

My biggest worry right now is not whether I'll get into the program (well, I'm pretty worried about that too), but whether I'll be able to afford to quit my job and go. I have two little kids to support and a pretty worthless husband. :(

I go for orientation/to sign up for spring classes at the uni where the BSN program is located Friday, so maybe I'll know more info then. :)

Specializes in Adolescent Psych, PICU.

This is the part of my application that I am working on right now. At one of the BSN programs I am applying to the go by your GPA and these questions (500 character limit), does anyone else have anything similiar they have to do? I know they really analye our responses to these questions:

*Describe your view of nursing?

*What is most desirable about a career in nursing? Least desirable?

*What 3 career choices would you consider? Give rational for your choices.

*In what way do you see your strengths contributing to your performance as a nurse?

I have some ideas, but am still brainstorming all this because it's so important to my application. The only one I am kinda stuck on is the Q asking what my view of nursing is....

I have applied for the spring of 06 at Valencia Community College for their LPN to RN bridge program. I have finished all of my pre-reqs and this fall I am taking some classes that will apply to a BSN if I decide to persue that route. Good Luck to everyone!!!!!:nurse:

I'm applying this spring for the fall semester. I am finishing my last 2 pre-reqs this fall and will be taking my last 2 co-reqs (and Math for Meds) in the spring. I'm so nervous about getting in... My GPA is good, but about 110-120 people apply and there are only 40 seats. But... the second "top 40" will get admitted for the spring, so I guess I have a good chance of getting accepted for one of those semesters!

Good luck to everyone applying!!!!!! :)
